Dealing with snide comments - xpost

So, twice now I've gotten snide comments about weight loss. One was from hubby's ex wife.. no surprise there. But she got in the "I'm just glad I was able to lose weight the natural way... of course, I might have taken the easy way if it had been available." She did lose 100+lbs on her own. Kudos for her. But still...  I let her know in no uncertain terms how this is SO not the easy way. Yeah, having my insides rerouted is so easy.

Yesterday at the doc's office, one of the slim nurse assistants said "Oh you've lost 22lbs, I'm jealous. Of course if I lost that much, I'd look unhealthy."

How do you all deal with the snide comments? The passive aggressive half compliment/half insults?

Do you have any catch all comments that I can borrow? Any ideas for comebacks? I don't want people to feel free to treat me like this.

Forget about your hubby's ex but the nurse assistant should be slapped up side the head. She's probably a person who has never battled weight but she needs to be more sensitive to those who have had a life-long weight issue. Try to smile and picture her 100 pounds heavier and just ignore her stupidity. Also, your hubs ex may well gain her weight back - you never know.
Hugs and keep smiling.

Some people are really flippant about weight loss... especially once its revealed that it resulted from surgery. For the most part, no matter what you say or do, those people will still firmly believe that they are within their right to say things like that to you. Those people are uneducated morons who have serious insecurity issues and need to cut other people down in order to boost their egos. For me, had someone said what your husband's ex did - I would have smiled and said, oh that's right you did lose a lot of weight - so I'm sure you understand how hard this process is and how difficult it is to change a lifetime of unhealthy habits. Hate to inform people - you are losing this on your own - it's a tool, not a magic bullet. It takes time, effort and dedication to succeed. Anyone who doesn't realize that is fooling themselves.

And politely inform her (the ex wife) that 93% of those who loose it the "natural" way tend to gain it back (I think my numbers are right, LOL- it may be 97%).  As for the nurse's snide comment that would be grounds for me to ask to see her overhead person.....

Ex wife comment, "Well, of course it's easy to lose weight when you are doing so much horizontal cardio exercise for your pimp!"

Assistant comment, "You mean you normally look like this?  I thought you were a cancer victim on Chemo!"

OK, so I wouldn't really say this to their faces...but it made you laugh, didn't it!?

See, I get mad when people tell me I look so good.  I turn and ask them, "So I looked like **** before?"

There are many ways to lose a lot of weight, but this is the only proven method to help keep the weight off.  You watch, she'll gain it back in a few years.  As far as the nurse goes...skinny people are always thinking they're "fat".  You could come back with..."God, I wish I were as fat  as you!"

Most people don't realize they are being "mean".  They make comments then realize they stuck their foot in their mouths, try to get out of it, but shove their foot even further.

Thank you so much for that. Cracked me up!!!

As for the ex... the only consolation I have is that with our different body shapes (she's a very pronounced pear shape), I know that when I'm the same weight as her, I'll be smaller. Snarky I know, but hey. I've dealt with enough of her innuendos and comments over the years.

Thanks all!

I have heard many people say the same thing about being told they look good. I don't understand how that is offensive.
