I am 6 months post op and feeling very depressed and like a failure, I havent lost any weight since the begining of May, I dont know if I have stopped losing, or have I just hit a long stall??

Is it normal to stall for this long??  Is there anything I can do to jump start the weight loss again, I have only lost 93lbs since surgery, I feel like a failure.  I was hopeing to have lost atleast 150lbs I feel so depressed that Im not losing anything.

I have noticed that it is making me depressed more than normal.  Any ideas suggestions are greatly appreciated.

umm... hello?!! You should be screaming " I LOST 93 POUNDS IN  6 MONTHS!"  Not saying"only 93 pounds!" I think you are doing great.Congrats on the weight loss!!  Keep tracking and exercising and it will continue to come off.

For what it's worth, my weight loss has slowed down A LOT the past month or so. I'm doing everything I should, so I know it will come off. :)

I'm not sure where you got the expectation to lose "at least" 150 pounds in 6 months, but that simply isn't a realistic expectation.  The VERY GENERAL rule of thumb is a loss of about 50% of your excess weight in the first 6 months (after which the weight loss ALWAYS slows down).  From your ticker it looks like you need to lose 185 pounds to get froim your surgery weight to your goal weight... and guess what... 50% of 185 pounds is almost exactly 93 pounds!!!!  That means you are right on target.

Yes, it is normal to stall at 6 months, and a lot of people stall again at 9 months and around one year.  the rate of weight loss also often slows down noticeably at those points in time.  That is partly because the smaller you get, the smaller your daily calorie deficit gets and therefore it takes longer to lose a pound of fat.  It is also partly due to the fact that you are gradually losing your caloric malabsorption, so you are absorbing more and more of the calories that you are eating.

Just keep doing what you know you need to be doing -- focus on protein and vitamins and water, and limit your simple carbs -- and the weight WILL come off.  It is common for women who are "heavyweights" to take 18-24 months to lose all of their excess weight.  "Lightweights" and men get to their goal weights much moee quickly.  The important thing is NOT how long it takes you to get there, but GETTING there.

I had a stall at 6 moths too and I didnt think I was going to break it. So I just decided oh well it is what it is and went a bought a cute pari of jeans from Buckle the weightloss started again. I think stress has a lot to do with it, but als you really need to be watching and writing sown everything. Protien first and low carbs...carbs really stall my weight loss. Also exercising helps a lot. Its too hot here for me to even think about running outside so I just do my biggest loser dvd.

Good luck you are doing great!!!! 93 pounds is wonderful!!!

I hit a wall at 6 months too....I thought I was done and wouldn't reach my goal...BUT, I did/do continue to lose.  It is MUCH slower now (2 or 3 pounds every 6 weeks).  I also have to "work" at it now.

Personally I can eat quite a bit (more than most people I read about on here).  I don't tolerate sugar well, but I can do a lot of bread, pasta, crackers, etc. so I really have to WATCH it.

I hate to say this but to lose my last pounds, I kinda had to "diet"!  Track my food, watch my food, exercise a bit more....it's worth it though....don't give up!

I was very close to your surgery weight (360 lbs) and have lost 84ish pounds since. While i get your fear that you are done... you're not. You're doing well... better than me! I think I might be in a bit of a stall too.

As long as you trust in your plan and work your pouch, the stall will break. Stop weighing for a few weeks, start tracking everytihg you consume just to make sure you're on track, getting your nutrients and that nothing is slipping in that shouldn't be... up your protein a slight bit and see if you can add some extra, or a different kind of activity to your exercise plan. Shakeing it up a little can help.

Best!

You've lost almost 100 pounds in 6 months and are depressed about it? I think your expectations of how much you would lose are a little skewed. Like another person said, you've lost about 50% of your Excess weight. That's a great amount!

I don't remember who has the "averages" list and posts it (I'm still drinking my coffee and the brain hasn't kicked in yet ) but your above average. Yes, stalls are common, and yes some of them last for weeks, just keep working the program and it'll come off again.

Are you tracking your eating? The farther out we get the more we can eat and we need to watch the intake.
Are you getting enough protein? 85+g a day (that's my absolute minimum for **** poor, I just can't eat anythig day. Several sites state that you should have one gram of protein per pound body weight (at your goal weight amount).
Are you exercising? do you need to "shock" your body with a new routine? Do you need to pick up the pace? do you need to add in 15 minutes a work out? do you need to start working out?
