eating too fast

Here I am in week 7 and can eat pretty much anything within reason. I am up to 1/2 sandwich, or a small salad. I do ceral with almond milk, etc. Everything tastes soo good that I find myself downing my whole meal very quickly. Then comes the horrible pain, and nausea. I am lucky that I have only thrown up once. I need something that will make me eat slower!

Try putting your eating utensils down between bites.  If you are already doing that, get a timer and only have a bite when the timer goes off.  You don't have to do this forever, but it will help you to change that eating behavior.

Some people get baby utensils to help them.

Good Luck

I am 11weeks or so out and I still eat too fast. I also throw up way too much because of it. I try to take a bite and push the bowl away, then when I have chewed well and swallowed, I move the bowl back and take another bite and push away again. Seems silly, but it works...when I do it!

Eat with Baby Spoons and Forks and put them down between each bite.

Works for me!  But as you get farther out you will be able to eat more and eat faster so it does take an effort to measure and slow down.

I am about 2 mounth out and I still can only eat about 2 oz (1/4cup) or less. I do eat fast sometimes but I chew everything until its mush, I also use a baby spoon. I have never vomited or made myself so full it hurt, I stop when I think I had enough, I get between 400-500 cal a day about 90 gr protein and about 100 oz of water, (I can drink pretty fast 20 oz in about 15-20 minutes) just go slow and put your fork down inbetween bites, I also try not to eat with the family because I want to keep up with them, I watch TV when I eat and go slow.

Good Luck

I use baby forks and spoons. My husband laughed at me last night and said "why are you eating your food with a baby fork?" I am only 2 weeks out but it works for me.

My surgery date was 5/9/2011 no complications I think I have gotten a little ****y and eat to fast and then I make myself bring it back up because it makes me feel better. Really not vomiting like before more just like foamies.

Watch the amount that you are eating also.  You may be feeling ill from eating too much.  I am 5 months out and I still do not have a good idea of how much to eat to be full, but not uncomfortable.  I often overeat and then feel too full and sick to my stomach.  I have gone back to measuring and have found that eating less still satisfies me, but I don't feel over stuffed.  I think some of us need to measure portions for longer than others because we can't tell how much is "enough" by listening to our body.

I"m three months out and eating too fast doesn't effect me at all. I have never thrown up, but I have had the runs after eating something that I didn't realize had sugar in it. But, my schedule is so busy I find myself eating in less than 10 minutes for most meals, small baby spoon or not.   Does anyone know of other side effects to eating to fast besides feeling full and throwing up? I do feel full really fast when I eat too fast, but I just stop eating.
