Eating too much

I just wanted to let you know that you are't alone. Our surgery day is the same and I am finding myself eating more and more and it is such a struggle to not want to eat all the time! I am eating mostly good food as well but I still just want to eat a lot of it. My weight loss has slowed a lot in the last month and I know its probably because I'm eating so much more.

Katie, lets try to encourage one another to deal with our feelings and urges in the most constructive ways possible.  Thanks for your support, we can be successful, if we persevere!

First of all, I want to commend you on recognizing that you do still have head issues (I think the majority of us do to some extent). Now it is time to work on them though.

In my personal opinion, 1200 calories is way too much for only being 5 months out, especially if you aren't exercising. At 180lbs, you will still lose weight at 1200, but it will be significantly slower than if you were eating, say closer to 800-1000 and working out. My main concern would be, your being able to maintain your goal of 140 if you still have this eating issue and not nip it in the butt ya know? AND your malabsorption slows and eventually stops. Because trust me, your ability to tolerate more foods increases once you are a year+ out. If you don't change your whole way of life and make the change in the first year, your possibly setting yourself up for an even longer and harder road of maintenance.

When I feel like I want to eat. I drink a HUGE glass of water, and or eat a few carrot sticks. If I'm still hungry then I'll eat. But most of the time, I was either actually thirsty, or just wanted to chew something. Maybe try that?

We are all here for you, and you CAN do this. You have made the first step in admitting you have the problem.

If all else fails. Look at your 'fat' picture and remember, "nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels".

I had surgery 2 weeks after you and Im doing the same thing, I hate it!  Im making good choices but my weight loss has slowed down and I can eat more.  I just started exercising so hoping that will help.  Im trying not to beat myself up about it.

Im noticing a lot of you who are three months or more ahead of me are just starting exercise. Did your surgeons want you to wait? I was told to start exercising at my two week post op appointment. I find it has been very helpful in building muscle and losing fat. If your Surgeon has cleared you I would really recommend you follow your surgeons plan for exercise just as you do his/her plan for intake of food. Water aerobics has changed my entire mentality on exercise and is great for joints and overall cardiovascular health. Best of luck!

maybe until you can afford one-on-one therapy, a 12 step group (OA, FA, CEA-HOW) could be helpful? i have found that during times of struggle, in-person help is more beneficial than remote (ie: phone) help. good luck to you.
