How many of you actually dump on sugar and fat.  I know my surgeon told me a percentage of people that have bypass surgery do not dump, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was.  Thanks!

Have heard around 30%, so pretty low in overall population. I do dump, mainly on sugars but also on really fatty/greasy things.

I've heard 20-30%, and in my case I dump on high-fat stuff or if I eat too fast....

Numbers don't really matter, it's your expereince that counts. Dumping may be a "blessing in disguise" for some post ops.  Lifestyle changes are needed post op, and that includes wise food choices.  Some patients have some issues adapting to food choices post op, eating the wrong foods. If these people dump, then they will likely do better than if no dumping occurs.  I had surgery just before my 60th birthday. I was definitely mature enough to understand the benefits of following protocol as a post op.  That said, I still tried a couple of foods on special occasions, and I had dumping symptoms--sweating, rapid heartbeat, hot feeling, anxiety, nausea.  But, I do not dump on everything.  There are many post ops in my support groups who have the same issue.  We can eat thing enjoy foods in small quantities without dumping.  Life as a post op isn't meant to "box you into a place" where you only eat 2 oz meals forever, and you many common foods, just in small quantities.  Those patients who do not dump, and continue to make poor food and serving size choices, are likely to have limited wt loss results.  DAVE

I am 7+ years post RNY and still dump HARD on certain foods - it's usually sugar/fat combination foods.

Nothing more than I expected and at this stage I pretty much know what will set me off and can steer clear from them - especially outside of the home!

I have always found the "I think I am dumping" posts funny - believe me, if I am dumping, I am not posting on here in the midst of  it!!!!!!
