My body is my enemy!!
Oh my goodness I do not agree with other the other user here that said the surgery probably won't work for you! We quite simply do not have enough info about your situation or expertise to be making those judgments, so please don't get discouraged yet!!!
I would suggest tracking your food in a journal for a couple weeks - writing down everything you eat and drink each day, as well as any physical activity - then reviewing it with your doctor, surgeon and nutritionist to get their thoughts and feedback. I would also recommend discussing your history with them in detail and making your concerns known. If there is another medical issue or something metabolic going on (that may be preventing you from losing weight despite eating such low calories), they can do labs and testing. Perhaps WLS is something that might help improve or rrsolve the issue. Otherwise perhaps there is something that they think you could be doing differently that may be helpful? There are also several really knowledgeable people here on OH as well that may be able to give helpful feedback if they have more specific info. I think it's a great idea to get a bunch of opinions, do research and evaluate from that point.

I was surprised at that response from the other user. Needless to say, I won't be posing my fears or thoughts again any time soon. I don't believe that I am the only person that has these thoughts, and is afraid of failure, after many years of dieting. I fell and broke my shoulder and a vertebrae in my lower back resulting in several surgeries. Even tho I don't eat that many caloreis, I do not get the exercise I need and I know this. I am facing one more surgery on my foot, but my Dr. feels that the weight loss will be beneficial with the back problemas and foot. I believe that most obese people have some type of metabolic symdrome, and I do not believe that all obese people gorge themselves. In my case I probably am taking in more than I am burning off. But I look at family and friends that are also and they do not have the same issues with weight, that is why I feel like my body has betrayed me.
I think that the journal will be helpfull. I have kept one many times, thru L.A. Weight loss, WW and so on. Low carb has worked for me in the past. Thank you for your response and thoughts.

Thank you, I have read your post before and you give good advice and you are inspirational to me as are others that I see on here. The before and after pics are amazing. I hope for good results also My surgeon does not do the DS, and I have decided on the RNY, after thinking I wanted the Band. I agree that even if I am a slower loser it is still a healthy lifestyle that I want to adopt. I have researched WLS for 9 years and have had patients that had WLS. I feel as does my Dr. that the malasorption conponent will be the biggest help for me. I believe that surely I am not the only person that feared after many weight loss attempts that their body was fighting them.Thank you for response.
Thank you for telling me. I am very, very satisfied with my RNY. It has served me well and continues to do so. A woman who was 2 years post op told me when I was pre op that this journey is all about attitude. She said our attitude controls everything and has to be correct. I have known her since she was a small girl. She is short in stature but weighed over 345. She lost her weight, has maintained and reached her goal. She kept telling me to choose to believe and focus on the possibilities not the unprobabilities. She gave me great advice.
I was exactly in your boat pre-surgery minus the hysterectomy, and I have lost 100 lbs since surgery last July. I am now maintaining, and it is HARD because I can still only eat tiny amounts. But at least the weight is off- now I just have to keep it there.
Do you exercise? Because for me, that has been essential to do, what with my low metabolism.

I walk but with difficulty. I am getting a recumbent bike this week. I know it will be hard and that this a tool. NO, I am not exercising nearly enough. I know you are right about the metabloism and exercise. I am letting fear of failure get the best of me. Thank you for letting me know that other people felt this way.
I'm going to suggest two things that might come off as confrontational: they're really not meant to be. They both come from a place of compassion and out of struggles that I have faced myself.
1.) You are probably eating more calories than you think you are. I once had a doctor's trip that was exactly like that, with someone close to me that was vouching for what I ate... and hubby, the doctor and I were mystified as to what could be the problem. Now that I am through the surgery I know that I was eating more calories than I thought I was. Cognitively many of our brains have biases around the size of portions and selectively edit foods. I would suggest you measure every single ingredient of every thing you eat, and track every single thing in myfitnesspal. Getting to a measured, documented and honest inventory of your consumption over a good length of time is key to correcting the way our brains estimate food.
2.) You will need to do an overhaul of the way you relate to food and to your body. I remember feeling at war with my body. I remember fighting it on every front. I remember being angry and frustrated at it all the time. That relationship with your body will only foster behaviours and attitudes that will keep the weight on. Challenge it - become your own best friend, accept your body as a single, unified part of you and dedicate yourself to supporting it on the same level as someone you love that was fighting cancer. You also sound like you may be a chronic dieter - a process that has undermined a lot of us through homeostasis and cultivating compulsive behaviours that are encouraged by diet programs. I would strongly recommend you read the book Women Food and God by Geenen Roth. Starting a relationship with a psychologist would also be highly recommended.
I wish you the best in your surgery, and am fully confident than you will be successful.
