Exercise: Yuck!!!

As others have said, I hate exercise too.  BUT, I made a commitment to myself when I signed up for this, I gave up pop entirely at the start of my 7 month pre-diet, I had already given up bread and wheat because of Celiac), and I knew I would start exercising when I could.  I started at 1 month out, really threw myself into, signed up for a 6-week contest at the gym I go to and won it (it was based on weight loss - up to 2 pounds a week, bringing in healthy recipes, showing up to the gym 6 days a week, and filling out a workout card daily).  At 3 1/2 months out,  I run 6 days a week, and do alternative weights (legs one day; arms, back and abs the next).  I am there over an hour each day sometimes up to two hours.  The only answer I can give you is, I made this a priorty and I'm sticking to it.  Because of this, house cleaning has been slacking and I'm allowing myself to not be a perfectionist at work and letting some things slack there.  Since it's summer, I've allowed myself to go to work in gym clothes when I can (I work with kids and families) but I'll have to dress up when school is back in session (when I see kids in schools) and for meetings..
I will say I feel my best energy of the day when I'm at the gym.  This is a gym my surgery center set me up with, and it's honestly the most comfortable I've felt at a gym ever.  BUT, I still do not like exercise, I do not like running, I do not like sweating, I do not like them Sam I am.  It's what they do to me I like.  I have these little bumps popping up all over me that I've never seen before, I've been told they are called muscles.  My heart rate has come down incredibly, enough that I have to run each day in order to bring it up enough to get a workout.  And, my husband and daughter are even joining me on occassion.
Just figure whatever you can (and can live with) into your schedule and make it a priorty!

I know that exercise can be hard to fit in, but I would say that everyone has at least 30 mins a day to do a workout, even if you have to wake up a little before the kids. I have found that exercising is not fun, especially when your first start. For the 2 weeks pre-op and the 2 months post op, I just walked at least 30 minutes a day. For me, music was really helpful to distract from the exercise. A walk in a nature area will provide exercise and relaxation. I found that after you consistently exercise for a month or two, it becomes easier and more fun. Plus the more weight you lose, the easier it gets. I think it may be possible to get to your goal by not exercising (I have heard of people that have done this) but for me, I don't just want to be thin. I want to be healthy, toned, and thin. And I've found that it is possible to eat just about anything if you exercise, and you can maintain your weight. So long term, I think it's something to incorporate. Anyway, that's just my experience. So take what you want from it, and good luck with your journey!

I have always hated exercise.  I fought it at every turn.  With my first WLS I signed up for Curves and paid for a year.  I hate to waste money so I went every week religiously.  As soon as that year was up I never went again.
I had a revision because I was very sick.  I had fatigue so severe that I was housebound.  A lot of it was because I became deficient but also because of depression.  It was a vicious cycle.  I was depressed because I was fatigued and I was fatigued because I was depressed.  My doctors nagged me constantly to get some exercise but I just couldn't.  I could barely drag myself out of bed in the morning.
I lost all my excess weight without hardly any exercise other then the few times I made an attempt to walk or something.  It took a year but I finally started feeling better.  I got some money and joined my local community center down the street, again I paid for a year.  I started going to water aerobic classes, the easiest one they have.  I also bought a bike and committed to riding it at least 30 minutes a day.  I found that I actually enjoy bike riding.  Who would have thunk?
I am not doing it for weight loss whatsoever.  I am below goal and don't want to lose any more.  But I wouldn't mind firming up some.  Because of the fast weight loss and lack of exercise I have basically no muscle tone and don't feel strong at all.  I push myself every day to do things I couldn't do the day before.  I keep my goals obtainable, though.
I ride my bike because I feel better when I do.  It is the best antidepressant I have found.  And I actually have more energy then I know what to do with.  I am keeping my house better and doing more things with my daughter.  I regret not doing this earlier when she was little because now she fights exercise as much as I did.  I wish I had made activity a priority when she was growing up so she would join me on my bike rides but she refuses to get on a bike because she wa**** by a car when she was 11.  I can't say I blame her there but I am hoping that someday she will start again.  She has even decided to go with me to the gym today because it is too hot to ride my bike so I am going to use their stationary bike there.  It's a start.

I can't wait to take walks with my husband and daughter every night (and not get winded)... that is exercise!  Throw dinner in the oven, take a 20 minute walk, and then dinner is ready when you get back!

Although I can't wait to start exercising and getting into classes and such, many people don't like to go to the gym and what not... so don't think of it as exercise!  Play soccer outside with the kids, take a walk, if you have a Wii, play tennis or something with the kids.... it will be fun, family time with that added benefit of losing calories ;)

Think of exercise as everything you do when you aren't sitting. Its about being active so count the things you do with your kids and on the weekends. Don't beat yourself up. Also if you do find time to exercise do what you like and it will be fun. For me I love walking and it is my time to listen to music and get away from the kids and my dirty house.

You may be surprised how that changes. I used to absolutely loathe exercise. Once the weight started falling off, I found myself far more interested in making it come off faster and trying to get things tighter. I started running at 4 months post-op and now, I get up at 4:30 am to get an hour run in, it just makes my day go so much better to have done it. I feel better, have more energy and know that by burning those calories I don't have to be as strict with my eating. If I want crackers with my lunch, I eat them and don't worry about. Running 5-7 miles makes that possible for me.
