I am 2 1/2 months out and i have not had any problems eating anything i had a taste for ,,i just am very aware now about what i put in my mouth,,i can eat sugary stuff but choose not to,,i use sugar free or no sugar added on most things but there are things that have sugar in them and have not had any problems with it,,oh and there definetly is sugar fee ice cream,,LOL,every now and then i put a tablesoon in my shakes to make them taste creamier,, where as in my pre-op world i would have eaten four or five full scoops of regular ice cream i now only need a tablespoon,,lol the world is a different place for me now concerning food,it's like before i was never content to just eating enough,,,now i am.i guess as another on this post put it,,it's really "90% MENTAL and only 10% "The surgery",,well,,it is for me anyway.

Anything with sugar or sugar alcohols for me. They just make me sicker than a dog. But that could change. I'm a dumper, so lots of things are off limits for me right now.

Unless something makes you physically ill (and only 1/3 of us dump on sugar) or will not digest properly, there is nothing that you cannot EVER eat again.  The key is eating the less healthy items only infrequently and in small portions.

I have to concur with the response of many other posters; your pouch dictates what you can and cannot tolerate and nothing is forever off limits per se'.  I love the old "everything in moderation" mantra :o)

There aren't any foods you can't ever have again - it's not written in stone. there are foods you shouldn't have and those you won't like anymore. I eat everything (exept ice cream) that I ate before surgery. I adjust the portions or just have a bite of something I really don't need. I love food also - did before surgery and still do now. Maybe more now because now I eat for nutrition not just to stuff myself. I appreciate it more and I eat a better quality of food. It tastes better and makes me feel better. Youf doc will tell you if there are foods you should avoid, many can't do sweets or fats as they react to it, but if you don't there's no limit -except for your own will power to stop you. Most post op rny patients don't dump so they can do sugar or some sweets. Popcorn seems to be a staple for newbies once they're cleared for it. I love mine with spary butter. No calories in the first 200 sprays it says. Tastes like butter and the popcorn is delicious. I do sweets, I do desserts, I do snacks - but it's all in moderation. Most of us change our eating habits to include snacks - but after surgery a snack is a cheese stick, not a box of cookies. It changes when you have surgery, what interested you before isn't that good later. I'm almost 10 yrs out, I would do this again in a heartbeat, I didn't have it to deprive myself, I had it to lose weight which I did. I have to police myself because I don't dump and I'm glad I don't. I can go to a party, picnic, wedding reception and eat the food, have a piece of cake or a drink and be just fine. The best thing is to use the first year to change your eating habits. You will change the way you look at food. I'm still at goal, where I've been since about 11 months out. I eat protein forward or only meals but I don't deprive myself once I've met my nutritional goals for the day. You may find the same for you. Good Luck -

Right now, a year Post OP I can eat pretty much anything but:

Sometimes Eggs make me sick
My Puch hates sausages or hotdogs
My Pouch hates Salad (specially Ice Berg Lettuce)
Raw veggies are complicated
My Pouch hates burgers (chicken, turkey, pork, lamb, beef- it does not discriminate)

I love love cheesecake! But know I can't have it again! :(

But there are gastric bypass links that have recipes where you can make any recipe of things you use to eat before only healthier and sugar free!

Have you tried Greek yogurt with a spoonful of sugar free cheesecake flavor pudding mix?  I swear it tastes just like cheesecake.  I like it with a spoonful for no sugar added cherry pie filling on top.

I'm seven months out and haven't really found anything that I don't tolerate.  I do however have an issue with potato... mashed or baked are the worst causing lots of bloating and awful gas (TMI I know)

As far as sugary sweets... I've been afraid to test those waters... I don't want to dump or learn that I am a dumper!!

Last month I went thru an awful bout of mourning, I'd find myself in tears becuase I couldn't eat the amount of food that I really wanted at that given moment another time I was craving a handful of junk - chips, chocolate, ice cream whatever I could get my hands on but I know I shouldn't and the reprocussion woldn't be worth it. It does make me sad when I see mounds of delicious food that the old CJ would just devour.  I get a little depressed at times becuase so much of life revolves around FOOD!!!

In my experience, the Pros outweight the Cons hands down!!
I wouldn't change it for a second... I love my RNY!

I eat nothing like I did presurgery.

No sugar, nothing white (rice, noodles, bread), no pork, no eggs, no sausage.....

It is probably easier to list what I CAN eat!   We are all different though.
