Foods You Can Never Have Again Post Surg??

There is most likely nothing that you can never have again.

Some people (about 30%) get sick if they eat very much sugar.  Even most of them, though, can eat small amounts of it.  Like, I can eat one cookie or half a small brownie.

Some people become lactose intolerant so you'd have to give up regular milk.  But you could drink Lactaid milk or soy milk.

Eating lots of fat or carbs won't help you lose weight or keep the weight off so you probably won't want to eat lots of french fries, potato chips, etc.  However, you will most likely be able to tolerate a few now and then.

Some people don't feel well if they eat much bread, rice or pasta.  Most people can tolerate at least small amounts.

A few people have trouble eating meat, especially in the beginning.  Most have no problem with it though.

When I want  something carbonated, I have hubbie get me a 20 oz. Diet Vernors which is better and I take about 1/2 cup of that and pour it in my lemonade crystal light.  I have more crystal light than Diet Vernors in the cup but I can still taste it...that's how I get my ginger ale rush.

I ate 2 bites of a slice of pizza last week and felt terrible pain afterwards. So thats a no go. I've tried a bite or 2 of pasta and it feels heavy, same with a spoonful of rice and any type of doughy bread. Cereal probably isnt going to be an option ever again but who needs it anyways? This is coming from a 5.5 month post op who hasnt puked or foamied or anything...but it does seem silly that my pouch will allow a square of chocolate or a cookie but not pizza or rice? Im down 81lbs so whatever it wants to do...

I dont' like the way rice or pasta makes me feel and at less than a year out I couldn't do pizza but later on I could... at 5.5 months I had not done any simple carbs at all... did not add those back till after 6 months and closer to a year to be honest...

I can eat everything I used to eat.  I dump or get frothy if I eat too much of anything - even the "right' stuff.  So if you are measuring and not making the "wrong" things your daily things, you will be fine.  Like the other ladies said...everyone is different and you need to remember that your serving sizes will be much smaller than they were before.

Personally, if I start with the simple carbs...I'm addicted for the day.  Even the whole wheat options set me into a binge so I do avoid bread, pretzels, crackers, crusts, potatoes, rice etc... and of course anything for me that has real sugar makes me tired and nauseous and dizzy so I opt for sugar free things always.

Just looking back at the posts before mine - Poet_Kelly has been a great resource.  She always puts it out there simple and straight forward.  EVERYONE has good information - I just am able to "get" her!  NO OFFENSE MEANT TO ANYONE ELSE!!

So there you have it ... nothing is off limits, it's all about the choices you make.  You have to make protein your focus, especially early out, since you would have a limited amount of room in your pouch.  So that means your plate might consist of a protein and a vegetable - because that's all that will fit.  Not much room for those starchy carbs and if there is room it will probably just be a taste or two.

Things will taste differently after surgery and things you like now you may not like then.  Things you don't like now you might like.  It's all a roll of the dice.

But you'll be healthier and food will take on a different role.

Good luck on your decision.

I knew going into this, I was going to have to give up ice cream no matter what. I had an extremely unhealthy relationship with Ben and Jerry. But..... at 16 months out from surgery, I gave into my craving for ice cream. So not once but twice after I ate the Ben and Jerry's I dumped. Now how dumb am I to try eating ice cream a second time. So after that, I haven't had any. I can't do fat free/sugar free or even frozen yogurt. For me, it was such a trigger food, no matter what I have no control.  Now I can say, I have ice cream in my freezer right now. It is for my boyfriend. I'm not even the lest bit tempted to have any. I would like to never dump again. Not a pleasant experience. I do enjoy life and eat a mostly healthy diet. I have my moments on my choices at times, but hey I'm only human. Good luck in your journey. It is quite the ride.

I was in a mood yesterday of "It"s not fair to have to eat like this! How can I do this the rest of my life?" So I had some ice cream, and it didn't taste very good. I'm grateful I didn't dump **** cream is the only thing that makes me dump)- I only ate a little, though.

Just because I can eat something doesn't mean I will. I get triggered so easily,
maybe it's because I haven't yet figured out what works for me to eat long term.

But I don't eat at all like I did pre-surgery. Sometimes that's hard. But I have to remember the cost-benefit ratio- I don't want to be what I was like pre-surgery.
