Let's make a deal..
This is a holiday weekend and I have 3 parties to attend, a pool party today, a house warming party tomorrow and a birthday pool party on Monday. There will be so many opportunities to "cheat". I too hate that word because in life we are going to eat things that we may not eat everyday and it is OK to do that SOMETIMES. But this weekend could get a bit out of control.
So I wondered if anyone else wanted to make a deal with me, let's try to be good this weekend. I am going to set rules for myself.
1. no bread (not supposed to have it yet so not going to do it)
2. I will make the better choices first (veggies over chips, skip dips that are super fatty)
3. Skip the sugar and fried foods, let's just face it they are BAD foods with no place in a good diet, ever
4. Make sure to still get in my water and vits and eat protein first.
5. The most important, try to concentrate on the people and the fun of the event and not the food.
Think Thin and just remind myself to take every day and every event one at a time. Being 4 months out and pretty much able to tolerate all kinds of foods makes parties harder. But I can do this! You with me!
You can do it!!! And then be proud of yourself afterwards!

You will discover a sense of empowerment and peace you have never before experienced. You will come to believe you can overcome your challenges and find some joy in this world." Katie Jay
I have even gone to buffets, although I always feel like I am wasting money but at least at this point I can eat a pretty much small/normal meal. I choose the things that aren't breaded, fried or loaded with sugar and take a small amount of what looks good then I eat the protein and a bite or two of the other stuff.

You're absolutely right that it's OK to eat special stuff we don't normally eat sometimes. As long as we can limit it to sometimes. One cookie will not hurt you. None of us got fat eating one cookie. But if one cookie always leads to another, then we might be better off just staying away from them altogether.
Making a plan for what you're going to eat and what you're not going to eat is a very good idea. And though I probably never would have believed it before surgery, it really truly is possible to have a good time at a party without eating as much junk food as you possibly can. Occasionally I miss being able to eat a huge piece of cake with ice cream on it, but most of the time it actually feels really good to me to be sitting there with a tiny little sliver of cake or eating a yogurt while everyone else is pigging out. It feels good to know I'm not eating the biggest piece of cake there.
