6 month follow up appointment - disappointed

I went for my 6 month check in today.  I've lost a total of 111lbs and 106 since my original consult (two weeks before surgery).  That's 50% excess weight loss according to my doctor.  I figure I've lost 60% of what *I* want to lose.  Doctor said that my weight loss so far is "okay".  He  asked about my daily caloric intake and I fessed up to 800-900 cal/day.  He told me that anything over 700 cal/day will significantly slow my weight loss.

I'm super bummed.  I was feeling all good about myself for losing 111lbs and going from a size 26 to a size 16.  Now I'm worried that I'm messing this up.  I feel so much better when I get in those extra calories.  He said that was just my body healing from the surgery.  I've been having a shake for breakfast (36g protein, 260 cal), either a protein bar (20g protein, 200 cal) or something like Wendy's chili (10g protein and about 150 cal - I can't eat a whole small) for lunch then another shake after work then a small meal like lunch for supper.  I guess I'll cut out the extra shake to get my calories down.

I also have a thrush infection under my panni and the general genital region.  I went to my pcp both for drugs and so that this is documented.  Want that insurance to pay to have  my panni removed in a couple years!  I'm miserable now though.  I've got a memorial trail ride this weekend (for the bff who shot herself) and I was NOT looking forward to several hours in the saddle in my current condition.

I don't have any current pics but hopfully I'll get some this weekend.

I think your doc is nuts!  106 pounds in just six months is incredible!  Not just OK, but incredible!  It's significantly more than I lost in six months.  And since many people continue to lose for about 18 months or so, being more than halfway to where you want to be right now is great.

And not eating more than 700 calories?  Nuts!  If you're exercising much, you probably need a little more than what you're getting, not less.  I realize everyone is different, but I was eating about 1000 calories from six months on and that sure didn't keep me from meeting my goal.

I don't know why your Dr. would say those things.  You have done extremely well by any standard.  I don't think you should cut back on your calories.

You can't live on 700 for ever and what happens when your weight loss slows down?  Does he expect you to cut back even more? What he said just doesn't make sense.

Speak to a nutritionist.  Mine told me that at the six months mark I would be eating about 1/2 cup of food three times a day, with two protein snacks.  Maybe focus on volume.  Don't cut the shake out, you need the protein.

Good luck (and sorry about your friend)

Now ---- 106 pounds is just OKAY? Are you serious?? OKAY? I hope you don't let the doctor keep you all bummed out, cuz you have ROCKED the scale my dear!

Your rash ---i am sure you have medication, but you may wanna try 'Anti Monkey Butt Powder"  Not only does it have a  funny name, It has calamine and really soothes. It is cheap too. good luck

I don't think these doctors know the power they have to make us feel bad.
Basically..he's is an asshole.
You are way ahead of the curve and the ONLY thing that doctor should have said is.."you are doing a great job"
So I will say it..YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB!!!
And I'm a nurse so it counts more!

That scares the crap out of me that he said that to you b/c I eat between 700-1000 per day (hitting my protein numbers daily) and I have hit a stall recently, now I am thinking that I might be eating too much??? I know that I am not, but.....

What he said scares the crap out of me because he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.  Stalls happen.  They are supposed to happen.  If that worries you, stay off the scale.

Like others said, you are doing GREAT with your weight and that is AMAZING!!!!

I agree that I would check with a nutritionist about the calorie intake. I am not a doctor, but 700 seems low to me!

Good luck this weekend, I'm sure it will be difficult.
