Carbs, I love thee.  lol

I was eating too many oreos so I cut them out totally and its been like 2 weeks since Ive had one.  I havent touched a piece of candy yet thank god but Im tempted.

I have been craving carbs and I asked my nutritionist about it and she said if Im going to eat carbs then to make sure its whole grain like whole grain bread or just not white flour type of carb.

I do eat whole grain bread or crackers or whatever when it's available.  And that's better than white bread but it still needs to be eaten in moderation and I'm not good at moderation when it comes to starchy carbs.  I can eat just one cookie but I cannot eat just one cracker.  Apparently I cannot eat just one rice cake either - and no, those are not whole grain.

Really, while whole grain is certainly better, I don't think white bread or white rice is that bad if you eat it rarely.  Almost nothing is that bad for you if you eat it rarely, really.  I'm all about moderation.  Except when I start on the crunchy stuff, I have a really hard time stopping.

Well i am only 9 weeks out.  I have had like maybe 1/2 piece of 12 grain bread, 1/2 12 grain bun and mostly when i go out to eat, what little i do of that i eat a few bites of the bun and not the rest.  Just enough to satisfy myself.  I have eaten about 3 small bites of mac and cheese also.  Mostly i can do without all these things.  Or at least before i would make pasta and only eat like 1/4 cup to my husbands box of it.  Same with rice.  I learned at WW to eat it sparingly.  I would eat candy but not all the time.  I think mostly my problems before were cereal...i do eat my oatmeal with added wheat germ in the morning and love it, but i ate the sugared cereal for breakfast and then lunch and snack...i do so enjoy carbs and its something i will definately have to guard against later.  Oh and rice cakes are awesome with some peanut butter and grape jelly on them.  I could only do one at a time though.    Good luck you all..i will be watching you.. ha

I couldn't give up refined carbs for a week.  I can only give them up for one day.  Today.  I may eat them tomorrow.  I don't know.  I just have control over what I do right now.
I gave them up when I had my revision for many reasons.  First, they were the reason I failed my first WLS.  No other reason.  I was addicted and couldn't stop.  When I had my surgery it was kind of like the 5 day pouch test but for real going through the eating phases.  I detoxed from them and haven't wanted them since.
I also gave them up because I saw that whenever people talked about having problems with eating it was always the refined carbs.  Whenever someone talks about not losing or regaining it is always because they have let the refined carbs take control.  I have never seen one person say "Damn, I just can't stop eating all that chicken".  Or "I'm addicted to brocolli".  I hate to say this but I learn from everyone and it reconfirms my commitment to avoid refined carbs today.
It is like in AA when a person has a relapse, they have done the experimenting for me.  I have never run into a recovering alcoholic who has gone back out who tells me how wonderful things are and how they have found that they have regained control.  It tells me that it won't work for me, either.
I hope I don't sound too preachy.  I really do know that everyone has different trigger foods and there are some who have had WLS who aren't addicted to refined carbs or compulsive overeating.  It's just that I have seen much more that are.

I totally hear you.  I was SO good about eating only the things I was supposed to for at least the first 6 months... I mean,  literally did not have a cracker, a cookie, ANYTHING I shouldn't have.

Once you let them back in, it is harder to limit them.  Consciously, I know bread is a killer for me, and crackers... I don't have them except on very rare occasions, and then it's only a bite or two.  I've let myself slide a little too much with sweets, though.  I can't eat a LOT of anything sugary at a time, but I eat some here, there, then again later, then again...

Those bites here and there add up.  When I see myself starting to want those things all the time (instead of very rarely), I know I've opened the door too far.  I am NOT going to go back to where I was, so must take matters into my own hands and STOP.

I have to say, though... it's a lot easier to stop again NOW than it was when you've got so much weight to lose.  Back then, even if you stop eating all the junk you're not going to see a big difference quick enough in weight or anything to serve as positive reinforcement.  When you might only have a couple pounds to get back off, laying off those carbs shows the result you want pretty quickly...

I'm all about that positive reinforcement!  So ladies, here's to our processed carb-free week!

I am currently on Day 2 of the my Carb Detox. I am doing it for 8 weeks.. only veggies, and lots of protein.  Vitamins. Lots of water. I am addicted to Carbs.. I need to create some space between me a carbs..

I will survive without carbs.. I am a litte grumpy and tired today. I am trying to.. amp up my protein to over 100 grams per day.. I am doing at least 3 protein shakes. Doing this over the Holidays will probaly help me stay on course, clean my palate, and lose a few pounds.

CARB DETOX is a way for me to re-evaluate what is going on in my life too.. I am hoping to reach near my goal weight of 165..for Christmas..

I almost broke down and had something not on the menu.. stay strong..the discomfort is temporary..
