Ok, I had my surgery almost 3 weeks ago and I am supposed to have started my period yesterday. I'm usually very much on time, if not early. I am on birth control, I went on it a few months ago, sooo... is this normal for after surgery to have a few problems with periods until things get stable?

Make SURE you're using a backup method with BCP - just saying that as a disclaimer. Yeah, hormones are out of whack and surgery is a trauma to the body so that can mess with your period, getting it too early or late or when you didn't expect...I had surgery over 6 months ago and been on Seasonale for the past few years. I'd never had spotting and had very short periods (2-3 days! Every 3 months!) preop. Postop, it seemed like things were kinda normal - - got my period at month 3 but for 7 days instead. Then the spotting started. Monthly. Started for a few days, then longest was off & on spotting for 10 days. Ugh! Gonna talk to the gyno about something else b/c obviously not absorbing the BCP very well at all.

I stopped the pill the day of surgery as I was told that it would not be effective. I have not had a period since surgery. I have to check out some other methods of birth control. It was very convenient being on the pill and knowing exactly when I would have it. Now it's up in the air.

Completely normal....hormones are all over the place right now.  I've been through menopause (early) and my doc said it may actually come back - YUK!

Hello Brandi,
I did not have a period until I was 4 months out of my surgery. I am not trying to scare you, but my period lasted 8 weeks and was very heavy. Then another 4 months pasted and I had another period, and it was 8 days long and very heavy. Now I have been having them every month and they continue to be very heavy. I have an appointment with my OB GYN so hopefully she can figure out what is going on with me. I hope you don't have the same problems as I do. It should regulate and become regular.

Kristina, I think they meant that you need a secondary form of birth control also. Not for you to stop taking the pill! (i.e. foam, condom, etc..) Your chances of becoming pregnant after the surgery increase. Please be careful. They do not want you to become pregnant until at least a year after surgery. Best wishes.
