Caffeine Question
Ok, I know we are not supposed to have caffeine, but everyone at work is LOVING the Spark Energy drinks. It has 45 calories, 0 sugars, 11 carbs (which I'm not crazy about) and lots of vitamins in it. However, it also contains 120 mg of caffeine. I am 7 1/2 weeks out would like to try these energy drinks (only once per day) but I dont want to do anything that I'm not supposed to. I have lost 37 pounds since surgery. Does anybody consume caffeine in moderation?

I am not sure about this and a veteran would probably be more of assistance, but it was to my understanding that caffiene is a direutic and contributes to dehydration. I am not sure if drinking the energy drink would be counter-productive since you are so early out and need to maintain your hydration level...Does the energy drink have carbination in it? I know some do and that may make your pouch grumpy or cause excess gas...
Hope this helps

Thank you for your reply. No, this is not carbonated. I dont do carbonation at all. I was diagnosed with Congestive heart failure and am supposed to take Lasix to remove the extra fluid retained in my legs and ankles. However, I havent been taking it on a regular basis due to the dehydration issue. So, maybe you're right. I think I will call my NUT and see what she thinks.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Before surgery I was a caffeine junkie. No matter how much I drank, it never bothered me and I drank a lot of it. After surgery I drank caffeinated coffee by mistake and spent the next four hours feeling like I was running a marathon. My heart was beating out of my chest and I couldn't catch my breath. It was terrible.
Now, I'm 9 months out and I can have one cup of regular coffee and have no problem but I don't do it often.

I have only had caffeine once since surgery - some regular iced tea. I normally do decaf or herbal, but in that instance neither was available. All I drink is water and decaf/herbal tea. I add lemon to my water for a change sometimes. I try to avoid the caffeine, as I am off of it and don't want to have to withdraw from it again.
I have no idea what MLM is? Sorry! I dont sell it but a girl here at work does. I cant participate in the entire program because it doesnt apply to me since gastric bypass. But I just thought the energy drinks would be a great way to get the energy I need since it had 0 sugar and no carbonation. I will post what my NUT's response once I hear back. Ok, perfect timing - my NUT called me back just now and said that since I was only 7 1/2 weeks out, I should hold off. But once I reach about 4 months post-op, she said it would be ok.

Thank you all for your replies. According to what I read, 120 mg is equal to what is in 1 cup of caffeinated coffee. But consuming it on a daily basis is probably not a good idea. I did call and leave a message for my NUT. She will call me back later today. Doggonit! I so wanted to drink an energy drink that had 0 sugar and no carbonation! Oh well, there are worse things in life.
