Need to hear positives.. large amount lost but still more to go.. and a year post-op
I am trying to stay positive, and feeling great. Although I am nearing my 1 year post-op on 12-15-11. I have lost 330 lbs since 08-23-10 and still have around 180 to lose. I am wondering if there are any of you out there that have continued to lose after your year date. I am determined to continue to lose and then maintain. But how has it been for those of you that took longer than a year to get to your goal weight. I just remember my surgeon mentioning a year window. I am trying to stay positive. I have not gained weight until day before yesterday I noticed a few pounds gained and was really upset. I am still walking and swimming almost daily. Still watching closely to what I am eating and drinking. Just bad timing for this with being so close to my 1 year. Also knowing I have a ways to go. In comparison to where I came from I feel great! It is a bit scary, I wish in a way my surgeon would not have said that about the first year.... maybe I just missunderstood him?
How has others done? Any suggestions on doing things or well just encouragement?

I kept losing past the year mark. It is much slower and more work, but I can even still lose weight right now. I'm thirty nine pounds from goal. I look and feel so much better. You can do this. At the year mark I really started counting my carbs. It helped me to lose weight. Logged my food daily and counted the carbs.

Congratulations on your tremendous accomplishment to date! Awesome work.....keep it up!
I lost weight past my second year anniversary as a post op. I lost MOST of my excess weight in the first 10 months and then the remainder excess in the next 18 months. (Probably 75% in the first ten months and 25% in the next eighteen months). I am up 5-7 pounds from my lowest weight on any given day.
From your numbers you have lost 65% of desired weight loss with 35% to go. AWESOME!!!!
Keep your focus on successes and you will be encouraged by your own results!

There is a window of time in which we malabsorb calories. But it's not like a window that slams shut suddenly. It's more like a window that slowly, gradually closes as time goes on and will be fully closed somewhere between one and two years post op. At that point, you'll be absorbing most calories again. But remember, it's slow, it's gradual.
And even after that window closes, you'll havce restriction to help you continue losing and/or help you maintain. I did not stop losing until about 18 months out.
