I am pretty sure I will never have a normal BMI
Stop stressing over this!! Just do what you're supposed to do and your body will respond as it should. This may or may not get you to a "normal" BMI. Focus on what you can control and learn healthy eating habits along the way. That is what you should be focusing on.

I am very close to you, my story anyway! I was over 200 lbs by the time I was in the 6th grade. I have ALWAYS been heavy. My heighest weight was 389 lbs and I am now down to 214. My goal is 190 which would still land me in the "overweight" category, and right now even I'm considered obese. Although, I am not positive if I want to even get to 190 because of how thin I am looking already. I have a lot of skin that needs to come off lol And I think without that I would be Around 205, maybe less. My body has already decided this is where it is comfortable because for the past 3 months I have had a hard time getting anything to come off. I have to work REALLY hard at it. But other than the skin I look and feel great, so why pu**** I def do not look obese, or even overweight- so I decided now not to worry about it so much. Oh, by the way I am 5'10" which makes my 200 lbs look really proportionate.
The BMI charts are complete Bull**** The BMI is made up math, they knew what the answer needed to be before they created the formula not to mention that it is over 100 years old and as we all know peoples body structures have changed greatly over the decades.
You want a better sign of Health and Fitness go by your Body Fat Percent. It gives a more true representaion of your physical compsition. It is possible to be 150 with a 30% Body fat which isn't all that great just as it is possible to be 220 with 21% Body fat which is considered perefectly normal.
If someone weighs 200lbs and their a normal BMI Would have them at say 180 if they have say 15% body fat they would have 170lbs of muscle for them to get down to 180 would mean they would have 10lbs of lean muscle butting their body fat % in single digits Think body builders.
There is also a term "Skinny Fat People" you should google it and read it. Being Skinnier does not always mean being Healthier.

Ok..so we are the same height...I'll give my input. In high school I floated between 170 and 180 depending on the season. I played sports so I was more active on season. I was muscular and I ran and played basketball. I was happy at that weight. Therefore I set my goal as being 180, which is still considered overweight.
I decided that I would let my body go ahead and lose what it wanted though, just to cover bounceback weight. I hit my goal just shy of 10 months and have now gone past that and I'm at 168.8. I will be a year out tomorrow and I have a few more ounces to go before I am "normal". I WILL gain back at least 10 pounds. I do not feel like I look that good. Despite being a gym rat for the last year, I have lost a lot of muscle mass. Even though I mostly lifted weights and did very little cardio. My lower body is ok (well...when I'm not naked...THAT is another story). But my collar bones, shoulders and scapula (chicken wings as my husband calls them) look soooo bony!! It's actually kinda gross.
Since we are the same size (height wise anyway, I didn't look at your starting weight), I thought that would be helpful. My starting weight was 292. I wore a tight 24 and a 2X top. I now am in a 14 (some 12s) and a L (buttondown) and M (pullover). I went from a 42DD to a 36 C-ish.
My advice...be careful..."normal" isn't always healthy. I agree with Lora, the BMI chart is crap.

Over weight HOTTIE over here!!!
I think your goal weight may be attainable but hmm at 5'9'' how would you really look and feel. My goal weight was 180 and I still haven't gotten there but I am pretty close. I can see my ribs and my shoulder blades are super pronounced if I got down to 160 I am not sure if "I" would like that. I am 5'7'' and I weigh between 186-190 lbs, I wear s/m tops and 10/12 bottoms and dresses. I have a very slender build for some reason with a PHAT BOOTY (glad its a little something back there). I know for a fact that I will never get to a "normal" BMI because really....... I am just a big girl. My body gives the illusion of being small and guess what???I am going to follow the illusion and believe it. My small health issues are gone and I am now pleasing to the eye. Don't worry so much about it right now, just bask in watching that scale move in the downward position.
