One pill at a time and wait a minute in between

This is how my Dr. says I should be taking my pills. I've taken pills for allergies, asthma, high blood pressure and cholesterol for a while and have always taken them all down in one gulp with a BIG swig of water.

I think its really cool how this surgery makes me slow down and pay attention to how I feel.

I have'nt had any feelings of over-fullness with any of my liquids, sf jellos, sf italian ices or shakes.

Im tempted to chug a little to see if I do get it. [the super fullness feeling].  Because if I dont I can drink faster like I want to. I know  our pouches are like funnels and liquids go right through but, Im worried it will back up if I chug.

You may be able to drink more/faster than the doc says.  I always could.  Even in the hospital I was able to drink more than they said without problems. I certainly would not "chug" early out.  If there is no room it will come right back up and it probably won't be pleasant.

Also, I was able to take all my pills without discomfort or difficulty by 8 weeks. Every morning I take 9 meds/vitamins and get them down with one gulp. Give it time and you will, too.

The first time I got something stuck was trying to take too many meds @ 1 time. Oh, the pain! I had pain and I got the foamies. @ almost 6 months out I still spilt my meds in 2 doses/swallows. This early out you won't feel fullness, they just cut the nerves to your pouch. Just take your time....Congrats on being on the bench!

I still take mine one at a time, Liz ...

Can I also give a tip that I think would prevent most people's inability to take vitamin *pills* etc?   Do NOT do it on an empty stomach!   Take them 30 or 45 mins after you have eaten something!

Unless a pill has to specifically be taken on an empty stomach, those suckers WILL upset you if your pouch is empty!!!

If I take them on an empty stomach they feel like a brick at the bottom of my pouch and I feel horrible for ages - this is at 7 years out!

I used to take them like that.  Now I just swallow a big ol' handful at a time.

Thanks everyone. I will continue to take them 1 at a time like the dr. says I should. I sure a heck dont want them to get stuck! I havent had any trouble with nausea or the brick feeling. I used to get that with my old NON chewable multi vitamin if I didnt eat with it.

I still take mine 1 at a time. I have a combonation of chewables and actual pills to swallow. I've always had a hard time swallowing pills but now even more with a thyroid nodule I have that will have to be removed eventually. It definitely narrows the passage in the my throat and sometimes just 1 pill gets stuck. Not fun.
