poll - for those at least a year out
Would you say that you have been "following the rules" most of the time, some of the time or hardly ever? And you can define "the rules" however you want, I'm not going to try to define that for you.
For those more than a year out, have you had any regain? And if so, are you OK with it or do you weigh more than you'd like to now?
Oh, and how far out are you?
Thanks!

I am three years out.
I am very happy with my results.
I follow the rules most of the time (and I don't really like the word rules, but for simplicity's sake, I'm using it here).
I have had a little regain, but I'm OK with it. I was below goal for a while so now that I'm around my goal weight, I'm still OK with that. I don't want to gain any more though.

Would you say you are very happy with your results, somewhat happy with your results, or unhappy with your results? I'm somewhat happy with my results

Oh, and how far out are you? I am 3 years out this July.

I may have had a few extra potholes along the way, but the journey has been good!

I am almost 4 years out. I would say, at this point, I am somewhat happy with my results. Since my highest weight, I am down 116 lbs right now.
I spent too much time ignoring "the rules" and made myself quite sick. For well over a year I could barely get up off the couch. I had severe iron & b12 deficiencies. I was miserable. Finally, after a round of iron infusions and b12 shots, I am feeling back to normal, although the tingling in my feet will probably not go away.
I also faced a regain of about 37 lbs. I've re-lost 16 of those pounds so far. It's been a hard road. Harder than I thought it would be. I'm not happy with my body as it is now. I still feel "fat". I want to feel thin.
I think, though, that I've finally faced the fact that I will have to watch what I eat and take a ridiculous amount of pills every day for the rest of my life. Otherwise, I will quickly wind up right back at my starting weight with major deficiencies.
Anybody who says this is the easy way out has no idea what they're talking about!
I hit goal at 13 months out and stay within a 10 lb range of that....part of the gain is muscle as I started running a lot more and increased my weight lifting over the past year. I'm the healthiest I've ever been in my entire life.
I follow the rules most of the time (80/20). I am a freak about my supplements, rarely if ever miss one.
Because at this very moment that's how I feel: dissatisfied. NOT ungrateful or unrecognizing of the progress I've made, but I can't in good faith go "yay, me!" at this point, either. I mean I could...but I don't feel particularly inspired to.
This isn't completely because of regain. I also never lost down to where others did and I may never know why, but I think that for those of us who "bottomed out at the top" there are some unique psychological factors that come into play that other post-ops don't experience quite the same way.
But I digress.
To answer your question, most of the time I do what I am supposed to do. Most of the time I eat a healthy, balanced diet. Most of the time I exercise. Most of the time I take all my vitamins. Most of the time I drink adequate water. Not all the time, but most of the time.
Has this contributed to my gains? I dunno. The human body mystifies me, frankly. Most of my regain was when I still had a good level of restriction and was way more compliant than I am now...when I am actually maintaining a stable weight. So who knows? I try not to focus on the shoulda, coulda woulda's UNLESS there is something to apply to the future. In my case, I really don't know what I could have done differently.
So...yes, I am glad I got RNY. No, I am not 100% satisfied with my end result but YES, I am proud of what I've accomplished so far.
