OT -what kind of crafts do you do?

While quilting is my main hobby, I also make silver jewelry using the lost-wax casting technique (design carved first in wax, then molded, wax melted out and replaced with molten silver, cleaned up and polished). It's pretty unusual but I love the variety of items I could create this way.

Hope you find something you will really enjoy.

Kimtres,  I would love to make lost wax castings.. I took a class in Glass casting a couple of years ago and my DH did his own lab work when he was a dentist so I know the basics.  I don't know where you live but I would take a class from you if you were nearby.  I have done the silver clay art.

I do Lampworking ( glass beads made with a torch), design any and everything,....pre retirement I had a greeting card and wrapping paper design company.  As a hobby I make German feather Christmas trees, do photography (digital...used to develop my own film but thank God that is history), cook, paint in oils and pastels, and make jewelry.

Insert images isn't working.

I don't sew...only buttons in rare cases.  But I have always wanted to learn to quilt.  That is the only sewing type craft I have ever really, really wanted to learn.  Maybe you can post photos on your profile.  I would love to see your work.

I used to sew. I have over 100 patterns in all sizes and I intend to start using them again. Also have a large cache of fabric. I made the larger sizes easy to alter. I'd like to make a quilt someday. They don't make fabric like they used to.

I also do jigsaw puzzles.

I usually make something up for my class reunions. I always do the invitations. The last time was the first time in full color. Christmas ornaments are popular. One year I made fake diplomas for people who were unable to graduate high school because the school closed and the principal at the time agreed to sign them.

I managed to lose 70 lbs pre-op and keep it off by painting, wallpapering, refinishing the floors, laying carpet and tile, plumbing etc. Now that I can do gas appliance installs, doing a water heater in the basement should be good for at least 100-200 calories including the shopping. The most hobby-like would be building shelves (as opposed to hanging shelves and cabinets. I brought our kitchen cabinets with us when we moved.)

Kelly, I'm stealing your idea of making shopping bags!!! Starting Jan 1st, it's the law in our county that you have to bring reusable bags or pay .05 per plastic bag, so I was making some extra ones out of remnant fabric. Tshirts would be much nicer looking!
So the only crafty stuff I do - or have time for - is sewing. Mainly pillows, curtains, doing my own alterations.... Not very good at it, but then again, crafts doesn't seem to be trendy among the Gen Xers. Oh, and I've made Christmas wreaths and other seasonal wreaths - mainly because I'm cheap and the premade ones are crazy expensive!

How about making candles? Would that something you'd be interested in doing? I always think that'd be a good idea to use up remnants of old candles and make some cool swirly looking new candles..

One year I made candles as holiday gifts for everyone I know.  I went to the thrift store and bought a bunch of cheap glass containers, coffee cups, etc and made candles in them.  They were easy and turned out pretty neat.

Do you know how to do the tee shirt bags?  You just sew the bottom of the shirt together, like the waist, and that becomes the bottom of your bag.  Then you cut off the sleeves, so it looks like a tank top, and you cut around the neckline to make the opening bigger.  The shoulders become the handles.  The bag is basically shaped like those plastic bags you get at the grocery store.  You don't need to hem the sleeves or neck because the tee shirt material won't unravel.

If you don't happen to have a bunch of old tee shirts lying around, I bought some cool ones at my local thrift store for 99 cents each.

I think that's an awsome law, by the way.  I wish they would do that everywhere!

if you like to sew, when i lived in montana, we would go out to the hooteright colonies they are like the amnish people, but they use power and have modern day things..but those women made the coolest things..they would take polyester material...100% polyester was like gold among the women...they would cut like 2 in by 2 in squares out of the differtn colors...then they would take another peice of plain dark color polyester and would make patterns using the different colors, they would fold the peice of square in half and sew in down the middle and an angle and each item would be different scenes, like sun rises or sun sets, or just mutli colors..but they would make rugs....and these thing would wear for every, and wash up wonderful...the designs would be very intricate and really cool...but you would have to find some polyester suits to start cutting up...but somethign to think of
