i know, i know.. im so SORRY..but i have a couple of questions....
yes i know its a fact of life...and yes after surgery we sometimes get stopped up...so here is what i would like to know...im giving some space in case you want to leave now...

why is it that sometimes my BMS anyhow some times they sink, some times they float...hubby and i have been having this discussion...and me and my mom too....hubby said his doctor said that when WE have eaten lots of fiber, it floats and not enought fiber, it sinks....but i was thinking the other way around... since fiber is so heavy....

most of the time is sinks and is a tan color...i do take stool softners and miralax every morning in my milk with my vitamins...some days things move easier than others...and some days but not like it use to..before sugery, i would have the runs and sometimes could not make it to the toilet..but now, i go once a day in morning..sometimes i can get anoner in after i drink my milk...i try to get my miralax in on a empty stomach so it can do its job.. ha ha lol...
i am 10 months post op...so i have noproblems eating meat and cheese and dairy...i do eat quite a bit of fresh fruit...no canned fruit for me...

thanks and i am so sorry for the topic..

They float when they have lots of fat in them.

Not to hijack your thread, but...

Does EVERYBODY end up taking stool softeners or miralax? I managed to eek out a small boulder or two last night but I know there is more in there that I'd really like to get out. I'm only a couple of weeks post-op. Is the poop issue just gonna be a part of life now? Taking stuff to make me poop scares me... Bad experiences in the past.

yepers....sorry to burst the bubble...i had gotten so consipated at like teh 3-5 week post op.....my poor PCM...i ended up going in for a drs appt..i walked in and he was so nice saying i had lost so much weight already..i just let him have it....when he asked how i was doing....here is how it went....
dr: "how are you doing today?"
me: " I CANT POOP, I HAVE A YEAST INFECTION, AND MY PERIOD STARTED!!!" "FIX IT PLEASE"
DR: "well i can help with 2 out of the 3."

later the next  night i gave birth in the bathroom..and the aftermath was horrible...the hemroids were just awful....i said i would never get that conspitated ever again.....
he gave me miralax, stool softners, supporistores, cream, i got it all that day...when i went to the pharmacy guy to get everything, he was like "having problems?" im like sure thing...i explained what i was taking and doing, and hes like...everything you are doing can cause constipation....

so yes i take 2-3 stool softners a day and a dose of miralax everyday...i have only had a couple of minor issues since then....but i keep a very watchful eye on how things move in the bathroom...i am loving that is only 1-2 times a day and first thing in the morning... and most of the time just fir thing in the morning...the rest of the day is just great....but pre op...i had the exact opposite so i was quite surpised when  i had gotten so constipated...never thought i would have that problem...
but even stranger yet, is talking about with total strangers on the internet....lol lol ha ha
have a great day

LOL

Sigh.. something to look forward to..

What's really funny is that after I posted this, I was watching tv and had to run to the bathroom and have been in there 2 more times since then with explosive poo! Apparently the mere mention of miralax does it for me! One extreme to the other..

Guess I'm still early enough out that I'm just all over the place.. I know my emotions have been so it seems fitting that my bowels would follow suit!

Thanks for the response! :-)

you said you had explosive diarhea - did you just eat something with dairy or sugar?  what about sugar alcohol?  IT could be from lactose intolerance, dumping or just a reaction to sugar alcohol.  Watch what you eat or drink and keep track of when you have diarhea to see when it is happening and what you ingested within a hour or 2 of it. Sometimes it happens immediately and other times it can take an hour or 2

No, not everyone.  I occasionally add some Benefiber to my morning SF hot chocolate if I seem to be not going as usual, but that's about it.

I can say I do not take anything. I eat fiber in my diet and exercise so I have no need.

i have not had a problem unless it was related to  pigging out on too much cheese or not drinking enough fluids..  Sometimes, scripts can be constipating.
