4 days post pop, still lots of pain
RNY on 02/20/12
I am 4 days post opp (RNY) and I still have some intense pain. I have a g-tube in that is causing some discomfort, but is this normal? I am also having problems getting in all my protein and fluids, but I'm going to use my g-tube more. Anyone else have pain like this?
Without a better description of what kind of pain you're experiencing, it's difficult to say whether it's normal or not. However, if you have any concerns, give the doctor a call.
With regard to the g-tube... yuck... I so hated that thing, and it is uncomfortable. However, the idea of making good use of it is an excellent one. Especially since you are unable to get all your fluids and protein in.
I used the heck out of mine during the first month after surgery. I figured if I was going to be stuck with it for six weeks, it was going to have a job.
By the time the g-tube was removed, I instantly felt like my old self once again and was able to get in all my fluids and proteins orally.
Welcome to the losers bench!!!

I didn't have a g-tube. All tubes, etc were removed before I left the hospital.
Every cir****tance is different, but I had no complications and was in SOO much pain for about 1.5 weeks. I was scheduled to go back to work 2 weeks post op, and luckily I felt better, so I was able to go.
I envy people that had little to no pain, but for me it was pretty bad.
But it does get better!!

My Dr. leaves in the g-tube for 5 weeks to make sure you can get your nutrition/medication/fluids. I have begun using it more today than yesterday, but I think I'm pushing it too much. I am having that "hard" feeling in the center of my chest (I'm assuming that means I'm full) or it can still be some gas I have trapped. I am trying to walk and stay upright if I can, but I am still in pain. Its a catch 22 at this point. Aany suggestions for relief would be great.
