What an awful experience you had to experience.  Glad you are feeling better.  I agree,  I think I would stay home from work also.

I had the same thing happen to me about 4 weeks post op. It was truly miserable- ER, enemas, the whole bit.

I have had IBS my whole life.

My daily regimen now:
Miralax in my AM protein shake
   4 Colace
   2 Magnesium Oxide
   1 Udo's probiotic
1 mug hot coffee after my protein shake.

Works very predictably.

Good luck- my heart goes out to you!

I replied to you yesterday and now wish I had been more detailed....

I, too, had a severely impacted bowel.. and I can relate 100% to the pain and humiliation!

THAT was the incident that got me into my 3 stool softeners/2 MAG-OX by Blaine routine.

And that is the routine that has NEVER failed me since!

FYI- I say "MAG-OX by Blaine" on purpose because it has a slightly different proprietary formula than regular magnesium oxide and it works the best for me.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! It was so horrible. I don't know where to get the Mag Ox by Blaine so I will just order it online. Great idea and I trust that it will work for me as well as it does for you. Thank God for colace! I hope your bowel problems are solved forever too.

You can get MAG-OX at any drug store (CVS, Sav-ON, etc)..... Just ask the pharmacist for it by name because it is ALWAYS very hard to find.

Thanks so much! I hope things get better too. For the next few days I am just having the basics: lots of water and plain chicken broth and some of my vitamins. I'm not adding in fiber until I'm satisfied my colon is cleared out and not having calcium citrate for a few days since it's constipating. I would not wish this on anyone. It  was my most awful experience of my life so far!

Just know that this can happen to any one at anytime, not just those of us who have had WL

Thanks, Carol. You're probably right but for me, before surgery I never had problems  having a bowel movement, in fact I tended to have loose stools more often than not. I'd take that over a bowel impaction any day. I am researching to find out what I should be doing to avoid this from happening again. People on here have such great ideas and advice! I appreciate your comments.
