Yes, most people Laos a certain amount of hair starting 3-4 months post-pp.  how MUCH they lose varies widely.  No, there is nothing you can do to prevent or lessen it, but being sure to get in your vitamins and protein on a consistent basis will help from asking it WORSE than it would be if you were getting all of your vitamins and protein).

Hi Lora, thanks for your response regarding hair loss.  My best friend had her RNY 29 months and I guess I had forgotten that she lost some of her hair also.  But when I asked her she was like "don't you remember when I talked about you could see my scalp?!"  It truly helps when veterans tell us about the "ropes" so we don't end up hanging ourselves over something that could have been prevented.

Thanks again for your reply!  ~Vicki

Vicki, when I was in the losing phase, I used to make what we called the "monthly paranoia" visit to my stylist.  She would check my hair, and confirm that I was indeed thinning, but also promise me that she was seeing new growth (that I couldn't identify), and that it WOULD be fine a bit later.  So far, so true!  If you worry when you're losing, see if your stylist would do paranoia visits.  Mine didn't charge me, because it was literally a 2 minute visit, and it was a real help with the emotions.

Thank you, Rebecca, for your response and suggestion.  I think I will check with my stylist about monthly visits.  It would probably calm me somewhat to know that I am not going to be bald.  Strange how one monthly visit goes away as we get older only to be replaced by another - LOL!  ~Vicki

The best advice I got was to buy 2 single serve sizes of every protein flavor that sounded remotely interesting, and try mixing them 2 different ways.  Most manufacturers will sell single serves for a buck or two, and Vitalady makes up small sizes of a lot of others.

It took a while (like 30 different flavors), but I did find some I could tolerate early out.  Another thing that helped was going through the Bariatric Foodie shake recipes and those that Eggface has.  At this point, the only time I drink a plain shake is if I got stuck at work and didn't make it home for a meal so substituted  an "emergency" shake I keep here with shelf-stable milk.

Perhaps adding the protein to greek yogurt with SF preserves will make it more palatable, or putting the shake mixture into an ice cream maker and eating it frozen.

There are a lot of ways to make it work, but unfortunately that means you have to try a lot of things!

I am super sensitive to whey protein...as far as taste and aftertaste.  I just couldnt stomach any of it accept one drink.  My recipe for that is:
Take a scoop of strawberry sorbet (or try vanilla if you like) unjury..mix in 1/2 cup milk, like 3 ice cubes crushed, about a tablespoon of banana sf pudding mix, 4 or 5 frozen strawberries and a couple tablespoons of raspberry SF davinci.  You can also mix part of a banana in it too.  Mix it all up in the bullet or blender.  It will be thick and cold and taste like strawberry/banana to me and i love it.  Its the only thing i have found that i can eat with protein powders.

I did not have time to read the other replies, so forgive me if I am repeating what someone else already said.  I was definitely my experience that my weight loss slowed when I did not eat as much protein and I know that people often "break" stalls when they increase their protein intake. (I was not able to "break" either one of my true stalls... I just had to wait them out.)

I suspect that the reason for it is that when we eat MORE protein, we are eating FEWER carbs.
