Unbelievable Experience

7 weeks, 5 days since surgery
So the last week, since Monday, has been a NIGHTMARE.
I went in on Monday to have an EGD to enlarge a stricture. The surgeon said my opening was only 6mm and it's supposed to be 11mm. While he was in there, a perforation occurred and my abdomen filled up with gas and bacteria.
The next few hours were filled with the most excrutiating, intense pain I've ever had. They finally got it under control and I was kept in the hospital until last night. I had to be kept under very strong painkillers as the pain would immediately return if they even subsided a little, which meant I also had to be kept filled with nausea meds as I had 4 bouts of uncontrollable vomiting, even though I had nothing in my stomach to throw up. I ended up having pooing and peeing accidents (very embarassing) and to top it all off, the second night I was there I had the most neglectful, unresponsive nurses you can imagine. It took me over an hour to get a heating pad to help reduce the cramps, and more than 30 minutes to get a tray to throw up in!
I finally ended up in tears of frustration and pain at the lack of care I was getting. I complained vehemently to the nurses and finally they started taking me seriously and getting me the care I needed.
Now I am home (big sigh of relief) and able to give myself my own care and feel so much better.
Like I said, what a nightmare.

Bless your heart!  It really does sound awful.  So glad the pain is finally under control and you were able to go home.  I prefer to be home and take care of myself, also, when I'm sick.  More a peace of mind, you know.  Glad you're feeling better and hope you continue to do so.  Best wishes on home recovery!

Wow, I am so sorry to hear that you had to go through that! Hope that was the last hiccup in your road to recovery and I hope you don't need any more EGD's.

I do have to have another EGD, probably Monday, to complete stretching the opening. Shaking in my boots.

Oh no! Don't blame you for being nervous. I hope everything goes better on Monday! You've been through enough. Take care and good luck to you.

Wow.  I'm so sorry you went through that.  Hopefully you are on the road to recovery, and never have to go through anything like that again.

Wow! I'm so sorry you had to go through so much but I'm so glad in the end you got the care you needed and are healthy at home! I'm glad you knew what signs to be looking for and that you were able to seek medical attention. God Bless you.
