I am scheduled to have surgery on April 11th
But the doctor took me off my hormone pill
Is there anything that will help with the night sweats, hot flashes and most of all my mood......
I know I only have 9 days left of surgery, but the way they talk I may not be going back on it, they have me so scared of the hormone pill that I may not want to take it again.....Please help

One more thing my mood is affecting everyone around me

I am on a hormone patch , and there is no way in hell I would go off it , although I cut it in 1/4th so I get a very small dose.
Did they say WHY you had to go off this hormone?

My hot flashes disapeared when I started to lose weight.  Fat cells hold estrogen and as you lose weight, the estrogen is released into your system...Instant hormone replacement!!!!  My hot flashes were gone!!  Sorry, I can't help you get through the next 9 days...but maybe you won't miss the pills after surgery!

I will say that your mood won't improve for awhile.  The hormone swings from weight loss will make you think your crazy.  Just know...we ALL go through the post surgical mood swings.  It's totally normal...but...be sure to warn your family it's coming! LOL Good luck to you!

Before I had surgery, I had serious hotflashes (although they had lessened significantly from the worst post hysterectomy times).  I was on antidepressants.

After surgery, I'm cold all the time (although I have cold sweats at night), and I haven't needed antidepressants.   My entire system is different.

Yours will be too.  I'm not saying that you won't want to go back on your hormones after surgery....  it's just that you might not need them as badly as you did.

So, be patient.  A month off hormones is uncomfortable, but if you could avoid the cancer risk that comes with taking them, you might be better off in the long run!

I was asked to go off 8 weeks prior to surgery too.  After discussing with my surgeon and PCP I went back on at about 3 months post op.

It really IS safer to go off of them prior to surgery because they DO increase the chances of developing a clot (which is true all of the time, but the odds of a clot are higher right after surgery so with the hormones you get a double whammy), but I don't know why you would need to stay off of them after a couple of weeks post-op when you are back to normal activities.

When I had my hysterectomy the doctor who did it said he really didn't want to put me on hormones and to see if I could make it 60 days without. If things were horrible he'd put me on them. I suffered the first month and wanted to kill everyone around me the second month it wasn't so bad and now I have night sweats here and there and really have no other symptoms. I'm glad I never went on them. You might want to ask your doctor if going off them will also behave this way so that 60 or so days out you are through MOST of it? If I had to suffer forever like I did that first month they couldn't keep me off them for very long.

I hope things get better for you
