Why can I eat crap and not feel like I have to stop?   I am not eating right!  I need to find time for me.  I bet you I just ate 10 malted milk egg things!   I am almost three months out and nothing bothers me to eat.   I need to find me stuck in the middle of all this fat.   So disappointed and sad.........

May I ask what was your expectation of your ability to eat after surgery?

Did you expect that you would not be able to tolerate sweets? Were you aware that many post-ops don't dump?

I ask these questions because I actually did not know these things. Thank GOD I did dump but if I didn't I might have been feeling the way you do right now. But to me it's really of no consequence. Whether you dump or do not dump, YOU have to make the decision to eat right. YOU have to make the decision to exercise, take your vitamins, drink your water and all the other stuff you need to do.

The journey out of obesity is not going to be, nor is it SUPPOSED to be, an easy one. This process is designed, in a way, to make you have to fight for yourself. I think that's the lesson you just learned. That you need to step up your game, fight a little harder.

Don't worry. We've all lost a battle or two (or four). But the war rages on. Keep fighting.

That is a great question.  I actually had the gastric bypass because I wantedt to dump.  I wanted to the scared away from eating sweets.  Now I am 3 1/2 years out and I have absolutely no problems with them unless I eat alot of it but I do dump on fats.

I have gone back to some bad habits but for me at this point, I need to eat the high calorie stuff.  I got sick last in the winter of 2010 and had major compilications and lost 45 pounds after I was at a comfortable weight but put me at 30 pounds underweight.  IT was bad and I couldnt gain it-  I had to be put on tube feeding just to sustain it.  After a really long time of eating very high calorie foods and eating all day long, I finally gained 20 pounds.  It is now  a year later since all my surgeries, and I gained 10 mote pounds and am happy but still only by eating alot and high calorie foods.  It I go back to eating normally, I lose weight.  It is strange that I have to go against everything I was taught.

I lost a large part of my colon and have alot of malabsorbtion again.

If it every goes back to were I have to watch, I will - I weight myself often.

But, I sitll wish I dumped so I wouldn't eat all the sugar sometimes.

Ah, you are learning what we have all learned on our journey....the surgery doesn't fix out heads!  We still control what we put in our mouths.  You have to control it.  It sucks, it's hard, but you can do it.

I always find something that tastes like the thing that I am craving and then substitute that for the thing that is not very good for me.  There are plenty of places that sell sugarfree malted milk balls.  You can also find a recipe and substitute a product called Whey Low for the sugar.

Lean Dessert and BSN have awesome chocolate protein powders that you can make great desserts with.

Do not deny yourself in order to lose weight.  Find substitutes that you can learn to love.  I eat a lot of Quest Protein bars.  My favorite is brownie and I warm them slightly in the microwave before eating.  They are so good.

I make homemade ice cream from my protein shakes.  I have many recipes for cakes, cookies, candies, and other desserts that do not use sugar or flour.  Do some research.  Find things that you love.  I don't believe that denying yourself works long term and I never did.  I just learned to enjoy foods that are good to eat and good for me.

I agree that finding substitutes is a good option, but if you don't fix what is driving you to oveeat then you are still at square one.  I love oatmeal raisin cookies - and I found a yummy sf alternative... problem is they still have 130 calories a pop.  That's 1600 calories for a dozen.  And if I don't check myself I can eat that dozen cookies over the course of 2-3 days by telling myself it's good for me and is a substitute.  In this situation I have to figure out what is driving me to over eat.  One cookie - good substitute.  12 cookies - not so much.  :)

I think key is learning moderation and self control, but in the absense of either then you have to remove the trigger.  I can't buy those oatmeal raisin cookies ANYMORE.  They even taste good frozen.

Cleopatra is a very wise woman! I am new in this journey to the RNY, hoping to have mine in Sept. Listen to your heart and remember why you had the surg in the first place....and don't get in your own way..... Good Luck, you can do it !

You're disappointed that it doesn't bother you to eat crap?  But most people are able to tolerate more foods after RNY.

Have you had any therapy to help you deal with the issues that lead you to overeat or eat crap?

Put a little sign up in your kitchen, " You are what you eat." ...and you do need to take time for yourself. It is hard to do on a busy schedule but you have to make time for it.
