BEEF...what's not for dinner!
Did anyone have trouble with red meat early on. I am 6 weeks out and could finally eat red meat (lean of course) but I tried it Sat and Sun and both days made me so sick I had to go to bed...finally threw it back up of course, Thank God for that. Does this mean I won't be able to tolerate it now or should I try it later on down the line?
You may want to wait awhile. I am 8mons out and was just recently able to eat a few bits of a steak. I could eat ground beef about 3mons out. It depends on you as well. Some people cant eat steak and some can. Some cant eat fish anymore. Its pretty much trial and error. Sometimes leaner cuts of meat dont do well going down.
It was such an issue for me for so, so long, I now eat beef maybe 2 times per year. I tried it the other day, ate 2 bites, and that was all I wanted. I no longer like it. It does not sit well with me even at 29 months post op. Buy papaya enzymes to have around when you eat meat. It helps break it down...
I only tried to bake 93% lean ground beef in the oven. I made a couple of patties for the week but I ate 2 bites and got sick. Same the next day. I figured maybe a fluke so I tried it the next day and noway did it like me. I haven't tried lean pork or chicken yet, was scared of what this did so I guess I will try it sometime this week. My stomach is still a little queasy from the weekend.
Thanks everyone!
Thanks everyone!
I made some chili with 90% lean hamburger meat and lots of kidney beans and had no problem at all, I sure was good for a change. I haven't been brave enough to try steak yet. I am sorry you ended up in bed. There are definally some not so good times along the way, but, hopefully it will all be worth it!

Other than a small amount of ground beef in Wendy's chili, my surgeon has beef on the 6 month food list. You should eat food on the schedule suggested by your surgeon. Your new digestive tract has to get acqainted with new foods and learn how to digest them. I seriously doubt you'd give steak to a 2 year old child for food. Same thing with your new pouch, take the time to tolerate foods. Don't rush the food introduction schedule--or it's likely you'll get really sick. DAVE

I started hamburger at 6 weeks. No meat can be dry - that we eat post op. Sauces, salsa, ff mayo, juice from the roast or something so it's not dry is the key. We can never eat dry meat again - whether it's chicken, pork, beef, etc. Try it again . One bite. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Beef (or other meat) will fill you up way faster than what you've been eating, so take it slow. Just a bite or two will fill you up. Take it slow and easy and youll be able to eat meat better in no time.
