Just want to share if you have Blue Cross Blue Shield their policy has changed no more 6 month supervised weightloss.
I had to do 3 months in 2011. One daughter just finished her 6 months and now her sister that just had her surgeon orientation just found out she only needs a pschyc eval.
So needless to say one daughter is livid and her sister is estatic...lol...
Maybe surgery on the same day for my daughters....
I'm thankful for our insurance and the fact that they will be done before college starts this fall.

I am so sorry!!!! My daughter was so mad yesterday because she had put her life on hold for 6 months waiting to start her journey and her sister just has 1 paper to get filled out today and she can be submitted for approval.
I think their is good and bad in it though. My daughter that waited 6 months has went off soda, ate her bucket list of foods and now is practicing eating slower and not drinking with meals. Her sister might not be as mentally prepared.

Not sure where you are but BCBS varies from state to state, even within states sometimes so it may not be true everywhere.  Check with your Dr or your BCBS before you get your hopes way up.  I had BCBS NC in 2010 and I didn't have to do 6 months then but my Dr required 12 support meetings which took almost that long to finish.

Yes you're right.... I live in Idaho but I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinios
But after talking to them yesterday I wanted everyone that had BCBS to recheck with their insurance company.

Not all BC/BS plans were that way. I had BC/BS of Mass. There was no supervised diet or wait for me. I was approved on the same day it was sent in. I had hoops to jump through for the surgeon because he wanted to make sure I was ready, but as far as BC/BS goes, all that was required was my BMI and me saying I have tried to lose weight in the past.
So happy to hear this news for you though!

you mentioned they are going to college in the fall.  I never heard of someone in HS having the surgery.  The youngest I had heard of was one of my nurses in the Hospital who was 23 and had it while in college.

Not passing jusgement but more curious about kids under 18 having the surgery.

In my honest opinion, this surgery is so life altering (as far as rules, what it does to you etc) I don't know if someone who is under 21 comprehends what is going to happen to them and how it's for life. I think my son who is 23 would qualify (nothing I am proud of) but I'm not sure I'd want him to have it. I see his eating etc. I don't know if someone that age completely understands the ramifications of the surgery.
Just my 2 cents
