I find it odd...

My surgery is next Tuesday and I have to have my labs done 2 weeks prior to my 3 month post-op appt.

It will hurt. It will take time. It will require dedication. It will require willpower. It requires sacrifice. There will be temptation. But, I promise you, when you reach your goal, it's WORTH IT! (Author Unknown). I feel this sums up my ongoing journey to a healthier me!

My surgeon did labs at the 2 week mark, 1 month mark, 3 month mark and 6 month mark. However he advised that the body has 6 months of B12 and Iron reserves after surgery. So perhaps since those two vitamins are a priority with RNY patients maybe thats why some surgeons just wait.

You shouldn't have found a whole B-12 vitamin in the toilet cause were supposed to be taking sublingual b-12, because we don't absorb it any other way.

My doc did my labs right before surgery and then every 3 months thereafter unless something is deficient then he'll order them earlier.

My surgeon does her first set of labs at 6 months, but I asked my PCP to order the primary ones at 3 months out just to be sure nothing was really out of whack.  Some insurance companies balk at paying for labs every 3 months especially since some of them (e.g., the Vit D test) are very expensive.
