2 weeks out and definitely feeling hungry + eating a LOT
hello
I am two weeks/2 days post RNY. I had expected to feel no hunger, but I am definitely hungry every two hours, a rumbling empty sensation in my stomach that goes away when I eat something. And I am surprised at how much I am able to eat - I just had 6 ounces of Chicken tortilla soup with about .5 ounce of tuna salad. Yesterday I had a 3 oz serving of turkey meatloaf! Am I doing something wrong? I feel fine immediately after I eat but I have been having some recent nausea (no vomiting at all) at the end of the day - am I overdoing it?
worried!

Are you drinking enough water? It sounds like you are eating WAY too much for only 2 weeks post op.
Your stomach shouldn't even recognize hungry or full at this point because the nerves have been severed. How good at you at listening to your body? When you sit there, is it actual hunger or is it head hunger?
You need to be careful because you could hurt yourself eating too much early out.
If you're not getting in your 64oz fluid (MINIMUM), then start drinking more. Often dehydration manifests itself as hunger.

Just FYI, I experienced feeling full just a week afte surgery, so not everyone doesn't get that. I am not sure HOW since everyone mentions cutting the nerves, but I know what I experienced and know others who have too.
14 years out; 190 pounds lost, 165 pound loss maintained
You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

It takes a while for the nerves to regrow after surgery so you probably are not feeling your pouch get full. You should be measuring your food this early out and only eating the amount your Doc or NUT told you. I would bet that your are eating to much and that is why you nausea.
Sounds like your are feeling good and your surgery went well!

Nope your fine. I felt the same way and kinda felt like dang he should of made my pouch smaller. Having your stomach made smaller doesn't mean your body isn't gonna be hungry. I learned that in the seminars before. You will be surprised at how it starts coming off. For me it wasn't about wanting allot it was just something that tasted GOOD or better...lol. The nausea is normal too. May be the little doses of sugar in things you are re introducing. Be thankfult- you feel good and can tolerate the food. Relax-your body is still in shock and will hold out at times from losing- due to the big difference in portions. Even those I was prepared FULLY about weeks you run into that you won't lose I still panicked. Sure enough it started back up just as they had prepared me. Also I found that I could hold huge amounts of liquid as appozed to solids. I would get my protein in at Tropical smoothie with a healthy shake no sugar splenda add soy or way extra protein. loved them and could drink half then the other half later. Good Luck!

I would just measure the amounts that your diet says and talk to your nutritionist about your hunger. I agree with the drink more. This is very much an individual adventure and some of us don't fit the norm. Just be very careful so that you don't hurt yourself
How much did your surgeon or dietician tell you to eat at one time? If you are eating the amount they told you to eat, you are not doing anything wrong.

I don't know what your guidelines are...for me at two weeks I was still eating liquids.
I have no idea what chicken tortilla soup is. I am hoping it is some kind of thick bean puree type or something?
Even now at my stage I avoid eating soup and cereal as it is a combination of food and liquid..
Follow your guidelines. Are people not getting guidelines?

There are a few surgeons out there that give little to no guidelines. Most give guidelines. Some people just don't like the guidelines they are given or want to do something different.
