I am shocked how many people I run into (mostly online) that either didn't get or didn't read their post-op diet information.  My surgery center has all their post-op info onlne and I've sent more than a few people the link saying "this is what my group says - you should ask your Dr. and Nut about your plan"

I have not run into too many people that didn't get any guidelines.  I have run into quite a few that didn't seem to understand the guidelines they were given or that just wanted to know if they could do something different from what their guidelines said to do.

At two weeks out I was still on liguids and could barely get those down. I wasn't allowed chicken until about 3 months out... I would let your nut know how much you are eating and see what they say. At nearly 1 year out I can not eat 6 oz of chicken at a single meal.

You are so early out I would not imagine that meatloaf is on the diet plan. I was on full liquids at two weeks out. This is the time to establish compliant behaviors, good habits and learn how to use your new "tool" to help you accomplish your weight loss goals. I know it is hard and I am not passing judgment on you I just think it may help if you look at your doctors recommended diet plan for tow weeks out and follow it as best as you can.

Good luck and best wishes!

Ground turkey WAS on my plan at two weeks out, as were eggs (and those would be the primary ingredients in turkey meatlof).  My surgeon has her patients start soft foods on Day 3 and the OP's surgeon may have a similar plan.  Please don't assume that anyone is being non-compliant just because they are not eating according to your surgeon's plan.

Hi Lora, I did not say she was not compliant, I was merely relating to her MY experience with MY post op diet plan. You may notice, I suggested reviewing her doctors diet plan for further guidance.  This immediate post op time is the time to establish compliant behaviors, and follow surgeons instructions. Just trying to be helpful and I did not intend to offend you.

This board should be a place where you can go and hear others experiences, opinions, and get advice

When you started off by saying how you could not imagine that meatloaf was on her plan and how you were on liquids and then immediately started talking about the imprtance of compliance, it sounded to me like you WERE saying that you thought she was being non-compliant.  I apologize if I read too much into it.  I just get sick of people here who are stuck on liquids for weeks telling people who have a different plan that they are not doing things right.

It is natural to be able to consume fairly large portions of liquids because the pouch empties fairly quickly even if you still have swelling at the stoma.  Although there ARE some of us who feel full very early out, most people are not able to feel fullness for a while which is why most surgeons heavily emphasize measuring your portions early out.  Turkey meatloaf would have been fine on my surgeon's plan for two weeks out, but I would have been limited to 2 ounces of it.

As the others have said, follow your surgeon's plan, both as far as what the allowed foods are at this point in time as well as any amount restrictions you were given.  Three and a half ounces of turkey meatloaf does seem like too much for only 2 weeks out.  I don't know why you would feel nauseous at the end of the day from eating too much during the day, but nausea is sometimes an indicator of dehydration.  Are you able to get in the 64 ounces of fluids?

Hi everyone

Thank you so much for your replies! My surgeon seems to be more flexible with diet than others - I started home from the hospital on full liquids and pureed food for 10 days, then moved to "soft" on day 11, which they define as anything that you can cut with a fork, including ground turkey (the meatloaf recipe is a Weigh****cher recipe that has a ton of protein because it has parmesan cheese too.)  The guidelines say 1-4 oz of solid food per meal, so I am staying within them, but the NUT said I "should" only be "able to eat 1oz at this point". I have just been surprised that I seem to be able to tolerate more without a problem.  Perhaps I should cut back, and that's a good idea to be more vigorous about liquids. The 30 minute before, 30 minute during and 30 minute after "no liquids" rule makes it hard to drink enough and I have been more focused on tracking protein grams than liquid ounces.

Thanks for the reassurance.

My surgeon has the no water 30 minutes before and after, too - but after reading here, I drink up until I eat, and then wait 30 minutes after.  I'm able to get a lot more water in that way.  My surgeon was so strict!!  I was on liquids for 3 weeks post op and then I moved on to pureed.  It was rough.  Wishing you a lot of success!
