Omg! Friendly's brings back some delicious childhood memories -- and I think it's safe to say, a small scoop of no sugar added ice cream with some Oreo pieces were not part of those memories. (more like full size Reese's sundaes!)
Good for you for enjoying it in a way that works for you. I hope all goes well with your procedure -- will send good vibes your way.
Best,
Laura

So I totally blew the "cut back on the starchy carbs thing" tonight.I don't feel bad about it, though. It was a special cir****tance. Seriously. I have an appointment for the nerve block thing in my back in Cleveland early in the morning, so my partner and I decided to drive up there tonight and stay in a hotel overnight so we would not have to leave our house at the crack of dawn tomorrow morning. Getting here was a trip, too. As we were on our way out the door, I locked our keys - housekeys and car keys - in the house. It took us a while to get back in to get the keys. Duh. I can't believe I did that.
So anyway, by the time we got to our hotel, I had low blood sugar and was insisting he get me somewhere with food FAST. Right next to the hotel is a Friendly's restaurant. I have not seen one of those since I was a kid. I didn't know there were any left.
Normally I would have ordered a salad but I felt like I needed something more substantial before I passed out. So I ordered a grilled cheese and fries. I ate a little less than half the sandwich, maybe half a dozen fries, and then of course I had to look at the ice cream menu. Because the fantasti**** cream is really the reason people go to Friendly's. Have you seen the stuff they serve?
They had no sugar added vanilla ice cream on the menu. And a million other flavors, all with tons of sugar, that I drooled over a little. And these crazy sundaes with all kinds of candy and whipped cream and stuff on them. My partner ordered this blizzard-type thing with chocolate ice cream and peanut butter cups, and is seriously considering going back there in the morning for breakfast to order this peanut butter cup waffle sundae thing. For breakfast. Seriously.
I had one small scoop of no sugar added vanilla ice cream with Oreo cookie pieces on it. Did you know Oreos are not that high in sugar? I forget exactly, but it's something like six grams per cookie, and I didn't eat that many crumbled up pieces. To be honest, the ice cream wasn't that great, it was just OK. But it was fun to get to eat dessert somewhere because I never have room after I eat my meal, plus desserts always have way too much sugar for me. So it was fun.
Full of carbs, though, that's for sure. But like I said, I don't feel bad about that. It was special cir****tances and not something I do often. And I do not plan to eat more ice cream for breakfast! In fact, I have to fast after midnight for my procedure.
I'm on that bench with you. I caved for whole wheat toast with sf preserves (well one slice also had peanut butter).
Every day is a new day and it just shows that we are making a good choice in cutting back. Hell, even our bad choices really aren't that bad in the grand scheme of things, right? Not compared to before.
FYI, good job on limiting the oreos. I've had to stop buying sf oreos because what I used to be able to limit to one or two cookies... I now eat the whole package in a matter of days if I let myself. I haven't bought them again in probably a year...
