this insomnia is getting ridiculous

I've had trouble sleeping all my life, at least since I was in junior high school, so I'm kind of used to it.  But sometimes it gets a little better and sometimes it gets worse, and lately I cannot sleep more than four or five hours a night and I am exhausted!  I usually don't go to bed until at least midnight but last night I was so exhausted, I went to bed and actually fell asleep around 10:30.

And then I woke up at 2:30 am and could not go back to sleep.  It's bad enough that I've been waking up at 4 or 5 am, but who wants to be up at 2:30?  Good grief, sometimes I am just going to bed at 2:30!  I don't want to be getting up then!

And I am so tired all day long because I am getting so little sleep that it's hard to have enough energy to get anything done.  I used to nap during the day if I had trouble sleeping at night but lately I'm having trouble napping even though I am exhausted.

I'm so sorry, Kelly! I'm sure you've tried all the herbal remedies and stuff so I won't even go there. I wish I knew of something I could suggest that would work like magic......but alas, my witch's broom is very dusty and my wand is no longer working.

Hoping the Sand Man will come to you soon and hang out for a full 8 hours!

Oh, I've tried about a million things.  If your wand starts working again, let me know.

I hear you loud and clear.  It's almost 3:30am. I have to be at work by 7:30, and I have already had a Lunesta and a Tylenol PM... but here I sit, still unable to sleep.  I have only been having trouble with insomnia for the last 6 months or so, though, so I am almost certain it is menopause related.  No matter what he cause, it makes for a long, grumpy day when I have had only 3 or 4 hours of sleep (especially if it has been that way for several nights in a row).

I've seen you on here a lot lately very late at night.

That's one problem I had when I had a regular job.  I frequently was unable to fall asleep until 4 or 5 in the morning, then had to get up just a couple hours later to get to work by 8:00.  Working from home, at least I can work in the middle of the night (if I have enough energy) and sleep during the day (if I am lucky enough to fall asleep) so I do end up getting more rest than I did when I had a regular job.

Part of my current problem is my PTSD.  For some reason lately, I can turn out the lights at night or I get really panicky.  But the light bothers me when I'm trying to sleep.  I end up with the lights on and a pillow over my head, trying to block out the light.

Every year around the attack anniversary, I have a lot of trouble sleeping at night. Same deal... the anxiety kicks in as soon as I tunr off the lights and crawl into bed.  I can sleep just fine during the day if I can make the room reasonably dark, though.  As you said, though, it is tough with a full-time job to have that flexibility.

Until this menopause nonsense hit, my insomnia was usually limited to thsse times when the nightmares would flare up for whatever reason... but after a week or so, it would go away.

Wish I could offer a useful suggestion.

Sounds like me.  I get really anixious before I should go to bed.  It's weird it's like I'm afraid to sleep.  I have no idea why believe me i want to.  But me too I only get an average of 3 to 5 hours a night.  It's a good night when it's 5 hours.  It's horrible.

I too suffer with insomnia. It comes in waves for me. My witching hour seems to be 3:15-4:15. Just can't sleep through that time and once I'm up I can't go back down. After days and days of this I am exhausted. Sorry you are going through a rough time right now.

I've always been the same way, I only sleep 4-6 hrs a night. I would have to take benedryl to sleep a little longer.

Kelly- I wish I had a good idea to give you to try- but I bet you have tried them all. I am blessed to be a good sleeper. Usually the only time I get insomnia is when I am stressed or worried about something.
I hope tonight is better for you.
