Mayo Clinic doesn't have anything good to say about it.  www.mayoclinic.com/health/hcg-diet/an02091

I agree with Sin Kim... It sounds like the doctor is looking to his bottom line rather than the health of his patients.  Those who have had WLS already have a powerful tool and, IMO, by him promoting these shots for those people (and what gets the weight off isn't so much the shots but the 500 calorie a day diet that goes with them!) he is basically sending the message that the WLS (and changing your eating and exercise habits, and hopefully addressing the psychological contributors to the obesity) isn't enough... and, if you "work it", it is.

I did the HCG injections back in 1989. Yes, it worked WHILE you take the shots. With an average weight loss of a pound a day. However, due to the restricted menu and extremely low calories, it doesn't teach you how to eat healthy foods. So, after you go off the shots you settle back into old routines and gain the weight back plus some. One of the benefits that was touted at the time was that even with the rapid weight loss you didn't end up with the hanging skin.
