Poll for those that have accidentally swallowed gum

Or, I guess, those that have swallowed gum on purpose, too, if you've done that since your RNY.

Here's my question.  If you've swallowed gum since your RNY, did it cause any problem for you?  I've read in numerous places that swallowing gum can cause problems after RNY but I have never actually heard of someone having a problem.

I also don't really understand how people accidentally swallow gum.  I haven't accidentally swallowed gum since I was a little kid.  But apparently it does happen.

Nope no problems whatsoever. Of course I didn't really begin to chew gum until 6 months post op, just in case those myths about swallowing gum were actually true. And for me, myth busted!

I swallowed it about 1 1/2 -2m post op..somewhere around that time frame.

I popd the gum in my mouth..started chewing..and someone startled me and yup..it went straight down my throat.

I havent had any complications from it although I do believe it was a reason i was so constipated (tmi) right after.

Well, I can chew gum and drink from a straw and I do both.  Why were you told we can't?

I didn't use straws when banded because of air but was told straws are fine with RNY.  I went to my first NUT class and the instructor has RNY.  She was sitting there drinking with a straw so I asked and she said we could use straws with RNY.  It really helps if you have an issue early out with the smell of protein powders.  Most of my taste and smell sensitivity has resolved now so I stopped using straws.  I've never smoked and avoid straws because of the lines it can cause around the lips.

I wonder how hard someone would have to be puckering to create any kind of wrinkle around their lips when drinking. I actually went and got a straw and used it in front of a mirror to see if there's any significant movement, and there just isn't. Maybe I'm not using the straw correctly...?  My mouth doesn't change any more using a straw than it does sipping from a cup.

When my husband is home, I kiss him and my kids more often than I drink from a straw. I wonder if that would cause wrinkles too, especially considering there's far more puckerage going on in a smooch.
Or all those girls who make duck-face into a camera. Oh my goodness, the wrinkles they'll have! And porn stars--oh, let's not even go there. If mouth usage ages people, it's no wonder those girls all retire by the time they're 25.

I swallowed one.  I lived.  No pain, no issues, no problem.  I accidentally inhaled deeply while I was chewing while laying on my back reading... oops.

I chew gum all the time but have never swallowed it - I usually pop some in right after eating because I am so thirsty and can't drink anything.  By the way, I use straws, too.

They said that chewing gum and drinking from a straw would cause air in the belly but hell I love gum and chew one piece of double mint for like 4 hours before getting a new piece.
