Ok, for as long as I can remember I've had this tire looking ring around my belly (ab area). Now that I've lost 73lbs I was hoping it would either go southward & flattening out or by some miracle go northward & give me some boobs, which I would prefer. Lol What can I do to make this go away. Sit ups, crunches? I've been told just plan ole walking would get it to go away. What are your suggestions. I really hate this bulge.

Probably nothing will get rid of it but plastic surgery.  Sit ups would help tone your stomach muscles, but if there is excess skin, no exercise will make skin disappear.

I have the same problem.  I saw my doc for my 6 month check up. She said it would be the last thing to go.  So...I hope when I lose the last 50lbs it goes. Otherwise I'm getting a suck and tuck when I can afford it.

Unfortunately, there is no way to spot reduce fat or to control where it comes off.  You can tone the muscles below the fat, but the fat and skin are not directly affected by any particular exercise.

I agree with Lora. Just keep working on overall weight loss and it will get relatively smaller. Walking is good for your heart, but does not do much for burning fat. I think you should try using an elliptical machine or some high intensity exercise class.

Yeah, but "when" does one start to eyeball the Lypo-tuck-pannis person? Lol. Goal, 60-80% of goal?

Seriously, the batwings are embarrassing.

As soon as I got to goal I had the wings clipped. Best decision ever.

I think most plastic surgeons recommend that you wait until your weight has been stable for at least six months.

It does help if your muscles are tight and toned under the skin. Ab crunches, serious crunches, like 100 a day will help. You can do 10 sets of ten in about 15 minutes without "killing" yourself. If you have equipment or go to the gym start out with 20 lb weights and work up to 50 lb. That goes for your back and leg muscles too, except the weights would be different. I'm up to 145 lbs for leg presses, 60 for back.

One warning about ab crunches: If you were MO and/or went through pregancy, your rectus abdominis muscle might have separated causing a condition called diastasis recti. If you do a sit-up, does your upper abdomen bulge? If you have this, you're not supposed to do crunches. Ask your doc or physical therapist about this if you think you might have it.

And I want to say again that firming the muscles does not change the fat over, in, and around the muscles. Contrary to what I was taught as a girl, there is no such animal as spot reducing.

I know where my bosom went. South of the equator.
