I will be 8 weeks out on Tuesday and have lost 44 lbs so far. I have not gone out to eat yet. I have been able to avoid work lunches/dinners to now. But the week I am going to have to dine out twice. Any suggestions on what I could get. I have only had chicken from a crockpot so far, so grilled kind of scares me.

What foods do you tolerate well at home?

There are usually a number of things on a menu you can eat.  Fish is a good choice, because it's almost always soft and easy to eat.  Salads with grilled salmon, tuna or chicken also a good choice...eat the meat first, then pick at the salad. If the meat is a tad dry, use a smidge of salad dressing to moisten it.  Even at burger joints, I can eat the burger patty or a grilled chicken filet from a sandwich.

Shrimp ****tail worked great for me at an early dine out.   Just look for choices that are largely protein...red meat, chicken, fish (or eggs)...done in a relatively plain way...broiled, grilled, even sauteed, and not in a creamy/high fat sauce.   Take small bites and chew thoroughly. You can take a few tiny sips of water to "wet your mouth" if it seems too dry, but don't really drink.   Also, you might consider ordering an appetizer as your meal, since you won't eat much and if there's a good choice available on that menu.  Or, when you get your entree, portion it off on your plate, so that you  know how much of it to eat.  It's easy to keep picking at it if a whole entree is in front of you and before you know it you've overdone it and feeling awful.

Mostly relax and enjoy.  If you've been doing well with foods up till now, I'm sure you'll find something you like and will work for you.

I have been able to eat moist chicken , grilled fillet. Meatloaf and meatballs, have not had lettuce yet so a salad intimidates me. I may have to try lettuce at home tomorrow. What do we need to watch out for with salad dressing?

Some salad dressings have a lot of sugar and some have a lot of fat.  I personally avoided salads when eating out unless I got a grilled chicken salad with no dressing and just ate a couple of veggies.  Grilled chicken, though, (as you already mentioned) can be dry and may make you sick.  In addition to meatloaf and meatballs, baked chicken or fish should be moist enough for you to eat, and crab and shrimp usually go down well early out..  You can also order a sandwich that has meat that you can eat (just eat the meat and discard the bread).  Soup (as long as it is not a cream soup because those often have too much fat in a restaurant) is a possible option (black bean soup has a lot of protein in it and is easy on the pouch).

When I eat out, I stick with chicken, fish, or steak.  Many places now have lighter menus that I pick from.  Always ask if they can give you a lunch sized portion, even if it's not lunchtime.

Beware a lot of dressings have sugar in them.  I stick with Ranch dressing, even though it's higher in fat.  I'd rather have fat vs. sugar (I've yet to dump).  I always get the dressing on the side.

Some other helpful tips:  Use your bread or appetizer plate as your main dish.  Cut what you need and then ask for a box and pack up the rest.

It'll take you awhile to eat.  My first time out, I was really careful and made sure to chew my food really well and I didn't eat as much as I would have liked before everyone else was done.  But I was able to put it in my carryout box and have it later.

I always get an ice water and drink it before my food comes.  I hate having to wait 30 minutes after eating to drink.  I do it, but I don't like it.

Good luck!
