Has anyone read this book?  My therapist reccomended it, saying that if I could disregard the 'new agey' parts that some people find annoying it's a really helpful book.

I'm a non religous person so I was trying to determine, and couldn't by the amazon reviews, if this is based on a strong religious foundation.  Instead of purchasing it I've ordered it via the library to try to determine if it's even for me.

I was wondering if anyone had read this and found it helpful/unhelpful ect? I'm sort of curious.

It looks pretty religious to me.  No thanks.

I didn't find it connected to a specific religion or a really powerful religous overtone at all...but then, I'm not a very church centric person, but have an belief in a certain level of spirituality (FWIW).

Geneen Roth is an excellent author who writes anecdotally about her experiences with food, weight, love, and the whole interconnectedness of it all. I'm slowly working my way through "Women, Food and God," but I really, really enjoyed "When You Eat At The Refrigerator, Pull Up a Chair" much better. "When Food is Love" is also one of her better books too.

I think whether or not it's helpful depends on how well you receive self-help books or how much you enjoy the writings of people who have been/there/done/that, kind of memoir-ish books. Geneen has a gift for sharing the simplicity of the intertangledness of our relationships with food. So if you are looking for enlightenment on that front, I think it's a great read (as would be any of her books). But, of course, your mileage may vary.

Let us know what you think of it when you read it from your interlibrary loan. And take a look at "When You Eat at the Refrigerator...." too, it's a great short read that is fairly uplifting when you need the uplift.

I am a very churchy person...lol  (I'm a pastor).  I HIGHLY recommend "Made to Crave" if you are going to spirituality route.  It is from a Christian perspective - so if that is not your thing - well then it would be a bad choice!  :-)

I agree, Made to Crave was a great book. I am currently reading Eat it Up, and so far I like it.

As someone else mentioned When Food is Love is much better.  I was unimpressed with W, F and G.

I read WFG and thought it was great. I'm not religious and didn't find that part to be overpowering. Talked about not letting yourself be numbed by food.  But letting yourself experience life.  That's what I got from it

I think I'll read through this one and see what it reaches with me. I'm also based of all these suggestions going to try to read "When food is love".

I appreciate all the suggestions on the books.  I'll make another post when I finished reading to share what I thought. Maybe it'll bring up some good topics for discussion!

Thanks everyone!
