Why can't people keep their mouths shut

Ah, I found it!

"The 4,000 respondents in varying numbers between 15% and 30% also said they would rather walk away from their marriage, give up the possibility of having children, be depressed, or become alcoholic rather than be obese. Five percent and four percent, respectively, said they would rather lose a limb or be blind than be overweight."

Oh, my.  Incredibly sad.

14 years out; 190 pounds lost, 165 pound loss maintained

I know.  Leave your marriage?  Become blind?  You know, I realize that many blind people live perfectly happy lives but I can't imagine choosing blindness over obesity.  I think losing one's vision would be so incredibly difficult to cope with.  Not that being obese is easy, but I think it's a lot easier than being blind would be.

Wow, that is amazing. I'd rather be 400 pounds at 5'4 than to lose my vision, or a limb! Good grief, you can always lose the weight, it's rare that you can become "unblind", and I've never read any documented cases of a human being growing back a functional limb. Darn shame.

That's amazing, I rather be 300 pounds and never lose a single pound than be any of those things.

I can't belive your superisor said that to you. I think the most hurtful thing that has been said to me is from my own family members telling me I'm fat and lazy.

You can't change other people, but you can change how you react to them.

Are they someone who's opinion matters to you?

The ones that really bug me are the ones from my family. So ya their opinions matter.

I am so sorry that yes people can be mean. And it's not always skinny people either!!!

Many years ago I had a neighbor and I was very close to her and she had older daughters who were raised in my opinion very spoiled.

Any ways the Mom was Japanese and and from Japan originally and she had commented to her oldest daughter about her and I have artificial nails. She asked her daughter why she had hers blunt cut and mine were rounded.  Her daughters reply was "Because Lori is Fat, If you are Fat you have to have them rounded cuz they won't look good blunt on Fat people"

I am not sure If I was more shocked that the daughter said this or the fact that the Mom actually told me about it and was very open about what her daughter said.

My nails were rounded because that is the way I preferred them. No one told me I had to have rounded nails at the salon and of course they tried to make everyones blunt at that time,  and I told the Mom this and told her that what her daughter said was not a very nice thing to say.

My feelings were very hurt,  I at least spoke up but yeah I went home and secretly wished all sort of awful things to happen to the daughter for being such a mean spirited person.
