anybody know about zip lining?

My sister wants me to go zip lining with her.  I'm not sure if that is a good idea with my back issues, though.  I tried to look up some stuff on line but all I could find was safety stuff like information about injuries that occur if the cable snap and stuff like that.  Does anyone know if it's likely to cause back problems?  Does it jerk you around or anything?  When I've seen videos, it looks like it goes pretty smoothly.

I plan to ask my doctor, but wondered if anyone else had ever done it or knew more about it.

call the company that does the zip lining. I guess take off & landing can be jerky. You kind of jump off for the take off. & when you land - you might be going a little fast which causes you to jerk to a landing.

Some of the ZIP lines I have seen...if the line snaps, well you don't have to worry, you would be dead. Everyone of them is different so you got to contact the people doing the line. If I am at a place that has one and it looks safe to me, I would love to try it. But my wife with her bad back, I would not want her to do it. Even Rollercoasters mess her up.

I feel certain a roller coaster would hurt my back because they jerk you around so hard.  But I don't think zip lines do that, but I'm not sure.

From what I read, zip lines are not all required to be licensed or inspected or whatever.  If they are at amusement parks or some other places like that, then they are.  But if it's just a zip line, they aren't.  The place my sister wants to go is inspected (by an independent agency) twice a year and inspected by staff daily.  It is licensed or accredited or whatever the correct term is by an organization called ACCT, and I forget what that stands for, but they are the zip line expert people, apparently.

Also, from what I've read, most zip line accidents where cables snap and things like that occur when people build their own zip lines.  Apparently you can order a zip line kit on the internet and bulid one in your backyard or wherever you want and of course many people that do this don't really know what they are doing and then accidents occur.

Idk about backs but the reason I am finally getting surgery is because when we went on vacation my family wanted to go zip lining. I couldn't bc max weight was 250. I am 262. I was devastated. I said my knees couldn't handle it. In one year I will be zip lining with my family for sure. Good luck. I hope it doesn't affect your back. I wod love to be doing this.

I so want to do it. My daughter has. She said she had to stop herself with her feet and she sort of jolted into a tree (to stop herself...she said it levels off to slow you down but you have to extend your feet out and hit up against something to fully stop).

All this says to me, yes, it may irritate your back issues. But call and see what they say.

We have some great ones here in Colorado. It didn't seem jerky to me but I don't have back issues and I wasn't thinking about it. The hardest part was the mile hike to the canyon rim in the hot sun. You do kinda... dangle.

As fun as it is - If I were you I would not do it just now.. Or soon after.
The zip -line experiance may casue some adrenaline - or otehr response - and trigger back muscle spasms.  I done a few zip lines thinsg and it is fun - but the high you get - may cause some not expected results.  I don't thnk they recommend that for people with back issue.

My friend just went and ended up with a broken foot in 3 places. The company didn't put the stop on in the proper way and she paid the price. It could have happened anywhere it was a freak accident but I just think that they are dangerous. I would also think the stop would be very jerky.
