I was just wondering if you saw the puppies yesterday and got everything straightened out.

I asked her last night and she responded about what happened yesterday here:

I got an email back from her about a half hour ago.  She said that she has a couple of people who have been waiting for red males for a very long time (longer than the 10 months that I originally waited for Khan?!?) and that she really needs to get them the first available puppies, but that I am above the people on the waiting list who put in more recent deposits.  She is hopeful that there will be enough red ones in the upcoming litters that she will be able to give me one without me having to wait for the September litters.

I sent her a reply and told her that, if those people have been waiting so long, I did not understand why just two months ago she told me that "the next red male is yours", and that by doing so she created an expectation about how long I would likely have to wait that is not not turning out to be the case.  I did ask her if the wait would be shorter if I was willing to take a cream puppy.  I am
Not entirely sure whether I am or not (they are beautiful, butI really dislike that they have liver colored noses instead of black ones).

Waiting to see what her reply is...  Very disappointed that she was not just upfront with me originally.  Perhaps se did not expect that I would be ready for a puppy so soon or that there would be such a shortage of red male puppies to sell to the folks already waiting.  Either way, I am very disappointed (and am hoping for LOTS of red males in te two remaining July/Aug litters.

Oh, that is disappointing.  She shouldn't have told you that the next one would be yours.

No, she shouldn't have.  It will be interesting to see how she responds to me telling her that I wish she had not done so.

I'm so sorry she misled you Lora.  I can feel how disappointed you must be.  Just went looking at the Chow pictures and ther reds are beautiful, but the cream ones are really beautiful as well.  Didn't like the black look that much.  The golden/tan ones are also beautiful.  But I can see why you like red best.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that she has a lot of red ones.

Hugs!

Thanks.  I suspect that maybe she thought I would either delay having Khan put down for a while longer or would want more of a grieving period before getting a puppy and therefore she would have time to get puppies to the other people before that.  But she should not have assumed and specifically told me that the next one would be mine.

I don't care for the blue or black ones at all.   Even though I have had a number of black Scotties and am not intimidated by Chows, I still think the black ones -- and, even moreso, the blue ones -- look kind of scary!   The cinnamon ones are just ok.  I really do prefer the red ones, though, so unless she tells me that one of the two cream puppies that I saw that were just born yesterday (or the fat 4 week old cream one) are available, I will wait however long it takes to get a red one.

It really surprises me, because i have been so impressed with their operation and the care and concern they have for their dogs and their progeny, and even the fact that she has the 3 year health guarantee (which I have never seen from any other breeder of any breed).

I am wondering if the financial aspect is coming into play since she has to give me a replacement puppy for free as opposed to selling a puppy to someone else for almost $1000.  It improves her cash flow if I have to wait to take a puppy from one of the half dozen litters due in September rather than from one of only three due throughout July and August.

Regardless, the bottom line is that she should not have told me unequivocally that the next red male would be mine if thee was any chance that she would not be able to honor that.
