They said if it happens again, then let them know, and 'hmm, that was really weird'.

i guess i'll call my PCP now, but it's a new doctor now that i haven't meant yet and i don't know how helpful they will be either.  i'm drinking a powerade zero today, but honestly, i'm not a doctor and can't really self diagnois this.

What no way. I would ask to speak to the dr again. They need to see you. I am sorry your dealing with this. How are you feeling today?

That's completely ridiculous.  I can see why your surgeon might not feel it's RNY-related, but I would think any doc would be a bit more concerned about it.

I think I would probably push your PCP about what might be causing it and what tests can be done to figure it out.

I did have a thing last summer where I had a seizure and my PCP and I discussed it and we felt it was probably due to low blood sugar but we weren't sure and she offered to refer me to a neurologist or order an EEG but we decided that any tests would probably turn out normal while I was feeling OK and that I should just go right to the ER if it happened again.  But at least she seemed concerned about it.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

yeah, i guess i'll have to just go the PCP route. i just feel i need some idea of what happened and why so i can try to stop it from happening again. what if i'm at work or driving or alone with my kids?

as it is, my daughter has seen more then her fair share of ambulances and hospitals between me and her brothers issues. she has some anxiety and i am going to work with her pediatrician to see if some play therapy is in order. she was so amazing the other night. she was wanting to cry so bad but just kept reading books for her brother so he woudln't get scared.

Surgeons really are just cutters and I'm really not surprised that they expect you to see your PCP and from then on a specialist ...

This is probably neurological or endocrinological and so it would serve you well to see someone who knows what they're doing than a "that was really weird" specialist .   Most surgeons choose surgery because they like their patients anaesthetised - not much interest in those of us wandering around awake!!

AMEN to what you just posted. Most surgeons just want to go in and cut (like playing a video game) and then be done. Thats why they want PCPs around so they can deal with everything else. Find a good PCP! Preferably a woman because they tend to listen and good luck.
