OT - I'm sure keeping my vet in business!

Thursday morning when I went to give my kitty Cayenne her insulin injection, I discovered I'd forgotten to put her insulin back in the fridge the night before after giving her the evening injection.  So it had sat out overnight and I checked with the vet and was advised not to use it anymore.  So I had to go buy a new vial of insulin, which cost me $131.

This evening, I noticed my kitty Indigo is limping.  She is favoring her left front paw.  I looked at the foot very carefully and can't find anything wrong with it, no sores, no thorns, nothing visible and when I gently squeeze the foot she doesn't act like it hurts.  But she doesn't want to put weight on it.  Since she otherwise appears to feel fine, I don't think she needs to see the vet on an emergency basis (which is good because my vet charges an addition $75 fee for emergency visits outside of normal office hours) but if she is still limping Monday morning, she'll have to go to the vet.

The last time I had a cat that was limping and couldn't see anything wrong with his foot, it turned out he had a fractured hip.  And he was only limping slightly and I'd waited about 24 hours before taking him to the vet to see if the limp would just get better, because I had no idea he was seriously injured.  I felt just terrible when the vet showed me the x-ray.  He had to have surgery and I forget how much it cost but I'm sure it was a lot!

I love my cats.  But I don't think my vet needs a new car or a vacation just now, and if he does, I don't want to fund it!

I hope it settles down. So stressful (and expensive) looking after our furry friends.

I understand about the vet bills. I have 2 cats myself and 2 dogs. Sometimes even the simplest of things add up to big dollars. I wish I could put them on my BCBS.

It's just so hard to know when and where they hurt. I hope that it's nothing serious!

Sometimes I feel like I'm putting my vet's kids (AND my dentist's) thru college.  But what can you do?   Hope your kitties are feeling better soon and you can avoid a vet bill this month.

Hope your kitty is ok!

i understand the vet cost situation.  I spent over $2000 in less than 2 years for Khan (although that also includes his normal puppy shots and meds).  Plus all the normal vet costs for Max, and now almost $300 in bills for the little Bichon that Max bit last Friday.

I hear you. I've spent well over $2,000 on my dog this year. Surgeries, ear infections and another infection and then special food that was $60/month. Hope it ends cuz I'm running out of money.

Pets can be expensive--think we' ve spent more on vet bills over the years than we did for doctor bills for our kids. I'm thinking of giving our current pets our last name, getting social security numbers for them and trying to claim them for income tax purposes !!

Sure hope your kitty isn't seriously hurt and you don't have to take it to the vet after all.

Oh, Kelly, I'm so sorry! It's frustrating, I know. We'd spent about $6K on Princess's cancer treatment & surgeries - that taught us to get the others insured on VPI and not to mess around with things that can turn so serious so quickly. I'll bet our vet's office thinks we're hypochondriacs because we're in there so often for unfounded concerns. But those kitties.....They are good at hiding pain & illnesses until it's really critical, aren't they?
