apple peels.... really?

My plan for today, since I didn't have any clients after 11a, was taking a long run on the Potomac river. Ate lun*****luding a honeycrisp apple & Jif-to-go.... then the apple peel decided to wreck havoc on my guts! I was in so much pain that I threw up twice (not much, really just PB flavored foamies) and had to take a Percocet. There went my plans for a run. So, yeah, after 18 months, things can sometimes just hit you randomly. So no more apple peels for me ... at least for a while.

As you may recall, apple peels/skins are one of only three foods that I still cannot eat (although small amounts of the peel from the Honeycrisp apples is ok). They give me horrible nausea and digestive pain. Same thing happens with the membrane around citrus fruit segments. I have no idea why those things bother me and nothing else (except onion rings, which make me barf) does, but IIWII...

Feel better...

I was just thinking about adding apple slices WITH the peels to my meals because I got those laughing cow low fat cinnamon cream cheese wedges in the fridge calling my name and, well, apples sound like a better choice than pumpkin bread. Now I'm skeered and I think I'll peel the apples first!

Sorry you had a bad experience and had your good intentions ruined. Stupid peels!

Well. I barfed up salmon at over 3 years out. I think it was overcooked, but that was a surprise.

I am way to early out to even think about peels. But I always peeled my apples before surgery so I will continue now. And honeycrisp apples are the best!!

I am completely addicted to apple slices. They have the peel on them and I have no problems with them..except knowing when to stop eating them!  I suppose it really does differ from person to person.

I eat a whole apple almost every day and the peel never bothers me...so its definitely an individual thing. Sorry to hear that you had such a bad time with them.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.  I eat my apples with a Jif to go too!  Makes an easy snack at work.  I haven't had trouble with any food yet but your warning is a reminder that it can happen to anyone at anytime.
