Personally I can't do more than a sip and I'm a year out.  It isn't encouraged for RNY so while you won't die from one drink it can become a substitute for food and becomes a new addiction for some WLS patients.  My advice is to avoid the things that your doctor has said not to put in your mouth.

From what I understand you will get drunk fast and it last about 30 minutes, lol. They tell me not to but I dont drink anyway so I didnt ask why.

Most people are told to wait at least 6 months, if not longer or never again. It depends on what is on your plan.

I don't drink much anyway, so this rule doesn't bother me.

This early out, I would advise sticking closely to your surgeon's guidelines. If and when you are cleared for alcohol, I'd try a sip at home one night before trying it at a party. You will have a very different reaction to it than you did pre-op. It may hit you harder or faster, and you may not feel it before you have had too much. Also, the sugar content (depending on the variety of wine) could cause dumping. Personally, I would stick to calorie free beverages for now.

I ended up in the ER after having a drink. I don't drink at all now. It was awful!

Dee, what happened? Why did one drink land you in the hospital?
