Good tasting protein drinks?
Hello everyone.. I am on day 3 of my pre op liquid diet and yesterday I tried the vanilla, chicken soup and chocolate all from Unjury... I really liked the chocolate but the vanilla and chicken soup were so gross to me! Any recommendations for good tasting protein powders/drinks out there? Thanks everyone!
I have posted a couple times lately about my perfect protein find. I had problems with other proteins because of the smell and aftertaste. I did some research using reviews from Amazon, because I did not like the Syntrax Matrix that everyone here raves about. I decided to try BSN Syntha 6 because of tons of positive reviews, and its amazing. I only mix it with water and its a creamy wonderful tasting shake. I have tried the vanilla ice cream, strawberry, chocolate cake batter, and chocolate peanut butter and they are all great. Its a protein blend (vs only whey) which means it satisfies my hunger much longer. The prices are also great on Amazon for a 5lb tub.
Here is a way to get some sample flavors to try. I love the cappuccino and like the lemon tea.
Syntrax Nectar - 13 ct sample pack direct from the company is now $14.00 no shipping. Just call them at 866-333-7403. There is an option on the phone for bariatric.

This is a challenge every patient makes. I'd highly recommend trying some samples--vitalady.com is one place to find them. But 2 of the flavors you think sound good. Try them prior to surgery. Label the 2nd sample with your opinion of it. Then try the ones you liked prior to surgery AFTER your surgery. Tastebuds do change and you may not care for your favorites you tried as a preop. Each patient is different, and the final decision is a personal one--a flavor that agrees with your taste buds. Your opinion is the one that counts here. You could have 50 people recommend a specific brand and flavor, and yet you may think it tastes like dirty dish water. DAVE

Right off the shelf I like the Premier Protein ( like above). You can get it at Sam's Club. I also went to mybariatricpantry, com and ordered the Nectar samples. I LOVE them all so far. Chocolate, Strawberry, Carribean Cooler. Also, I blended a little banana in my chocolate shake & it takes the protein "bite" off a little. Hope this helps!
Also, do not get rid of anything you don't like now (and don't buy a large tub of anything now) because you may find that your tastes change after surgery, so what you don't like now may be good later or something you like now may taste bad after surgery.
Get samples, samples, and more samples. No matter how many people say they love or hate a particular protein powder, the only thing you can really do is try it yourself to see how YOU like it. Many manufacturers have individual packets, and many are available from www.vitalady.com.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I'm on day 4 of my pre op liquid. My favorite, by far, is the Syntrax Nectar Cappucino Latte. Mixed with some skim milk, It packs a ton of protein. Cold it tastes like iced coffee, hot (as hot as I can get it without messing up the protein), it tastes like a starbucks drink. I usually add a pump of DaVinci Sugar Free English toffee syrup to it. Yummy!
When I'm feeling lazy, i'll open an oh yeah ready to drink protein shake. I got mine at the vitamin shoppe but you can even get them at Sheetz and other convenience stores. 32 grams of protein in 14 oz of fluid isn't bad, and i think the chocolate one tastes like yoo-hoo.
If you bought a bunch of the Unjury chicken and find you don't like it, i'd recommend trying it with either a bit more water or a little hotter (you *can* get it pretty hot if you do it slowly and temper it). Or, if you're allowed chicken broth, mix it with the broth to up the protein.
