Yikes! I ate chili!

I'm 11 days post op and new to OH.  Anyways, 3 days ago, I ate pureed chili for dinner.  Only after 3 or 4 small bites, I started to feel crampy.  (Sorry TMI)  I had diarrhea.  I was miserable all night with burping, indigestion, and acid reflux.  I would try to get some water down, but it would just irritate my stomach.  I woke up sick, and called the dr.  He told me to go back on clear liquids for the day to see if, my stomach would settle.  I felt a little better, but I still had some indigestion.  Today, I'm slowly back on pureed foods. I didn't do my vitamins or protein shakes...per dr.  I just ate cottage cheese, yogurt, and eggs.  I'm A LOT better!!  Do you think the chili was too soon?  Too spicy??  It was pureed, but I still had to chew the ground beef.  I ate pureed chicken the night before, and it seemed to lay in my stomach all night as well.  I'm nervous to eat meat now!  Any advice??

There are as many different recipes for chili as there are stars in the sky. What I suspect is the meat in the chili was too thick/chewy and you ate it too fast. Might have been too much grease/fat in the chili. The next time you want to try chili try Wendy's chili the small size and chew chew chew and then chew some more before you swallow. Put the spoon down between bites. I suspect you will do fine with that.

Also keep in mind on any given day something you have eaten before will make you sick. It's called a bad pouch day. You will have days you can eat anything and days were the lease little thing will make you ill. Roll with the punches!

Hope this was a little helpful to you.

As Alan said, it depends on what was in the chili (beans? how spicy? how high was the fat content of the ground beef?), and most people do very well with Wendy's chili early out.

Imo there was probably too much fat in it. Wendys chili has been good to me, and its lower fat than most. Or just make your own. I plan on making turkey chili myself. Btw spicy stuff hasn't bothered me, but i imagine its different for everyone.

I should have stuck to the Wendy's chili!!!  It was my step-mom's, and she uses just regular 80/20 ground meat. Thanks so much for the advice.  I also need to learn to SLOW DOWN when I eat!!

I had Wendy's Chili also very early out on my puree stage and I experienced the same problems as you ! I would suggest doing cream of soups just becareful of the fat  and wait a little longer out to try chili again I'm almost 5 months out and am now just able to have a small portion

Wendy's chili is what I survived on in the early days.. But, 11 days out might be a little early for any chili.. Your new tummy will get irritated pretty easily.. I would wait a couple weeks and then give it another try.. Just like when you first start feeding an infant solid food.. Little bits and trial and error.. Hope you have no more issues with the belly.. I know that stinks!
