Frustrated with pouch pain!!
I am 15 months post op Roux-en-Y (September 2011). Since October 2011 I have been having pouch pain. I understand that this is normal in the 1st few months. However at about my 7th month, I was still having pain. I saw my surgeon, he said he had never heard of it lasting that long so he had no answer for me. I saw my gastroenterologist in May. He did an Upper GI and and Endoscopy - nothing. I went back to my surgeon in September for my 1 year post-op visit. I mentioned that I was still having the pain. He again stated he had no answer for me - it must be scar tissue. Really? I am so frustrated at this point. Over the past few days the pain is increasingly worse. I can't even stand or sit up straight. It hurts like heck when I eat (always has) and I can't exercise because of the pain. Also, my incision site is very itchy (not red or swollen). Last December, I did develop an infection at that site and they had to reopen it.I'm so afraid that I may have a "popped staple" or something. I don't know what else to do. Has anyone ever had this pain?
If it were a staple issue along the incision line, that would have been evident when they did the EGD, so you shouldn't waste any energy worrying about that. Does it hurt ONLY after you eat or all the time? (Just curious.)
I sure hope you can figure out what the problem is!

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Geez Pamela, that is awful to be in pain for that long! Have you thought about going to a specialist in Boston, maybe Mass General? I know for me, if I'm not getting the answers to my questions I haul my skinny ass to a specialist in one of the best medical areas in the world! Something is causing the pain, and getting to the root of the problem would be great for you.

So I've been having this kind of pain for about a month now and realized last night - IT'S GAS! Now I'm not saying that's the case with you, but it IS possible you are eating something consistently that is causing the gas and don't realize it - making the pain last longer. Try cutting things out of your diet that would cause gas and see if that helps.
My pain is sharp stabbing pains right where my pouch is and it hurts to it up straight and walk. BUT I found walking is the key. I also just went to the Chiropractor tonight and after the adjustment I started passing gas like nobody's business. LOL! I feel so much better now.
Just a thought! Good luck!
