Ammonia taste
I'm almost 3 weeks post-op and over the last week I've experienced an ammonia taste in my mouth. At first I thought it meant my kidney's weren't functioning property. I called my doctor and he put that to rest as I don't have kidney pain and my urine is light in color. I was offer the explanation of it may be the anesthesia still working it's way out of my body. Has anyone experience anything similar?

Scarlett is most likely correct that the funny taste (and probably bad breath) is probably ketosis. That, as much as it is yucky, is a good sign. Ketosis is when your body is burning fat for energy. Try sugar free breath mints or breath strips. It will get better! You can Google "ketosis" for a lot of information on it and see if that sounds like what you are experiencing.
Good luck, Joe!!

If I dont enough protein in the next day i wake up with a taste thats chemical-ish, like floor cleaner :) Yep ketosis. I like to think of it as the taste of fat dying, but i guess im morbid like that. lol
