But if you're not recently post op, if you're on a regular diet, how do you handle things?

The meal stays the same and I eat protein first, good carbs if there is room and skip most sugary products.

Do you stick to your normal meal plan and ignore the holiday goodies?

I ignore the holiday sweets for the most part.  I have taken a taste and been satisfied with that.  I always pinch a small bite when I am baking to make sure it is good before giving it away.  I've been fortunate in being satisfied with that and not craving more.  I've gone to several Christmas functions and actually had no desire for the goodies.  I eat protein and visit.  I've also been satisfied drinking ice water.

Do you indulge in holiday goodies in moderation?

I've not had a desire for the goodies this year.  However, I will eat a small cookie or such if I want it on Christmas Day.  It will depend on how full I am after the turkey.

Do you end up indulging more than you think you should?  Do you end up regretting what or how much you eat?

No not this year at 10 months out.

Do you make special foods that are WLS-friendly?  Like, do you make sugar free cookies or no sugar added pies or something like that?

I haven't since I've had no desire for them.    I can't handle much sugar free as it bothers my digestive system.

Do you end up feeling deprived around the holidays?  Or are you satisfied with what you eat and do?

Not deprived and very satisfied.  I find I'm happy cooking and baking for others more than for myself.  I enjoy the parties but don't eat much at the parties.  Thus far have little or no  desire for the sugary foods. I notice how high people fill their plates with rich foods and think yuck.  I love feeling in control of what goes in my mouth.

We are going to our sons' house Christmas morning and I know they will have a ton of good things.  I'll stick to the egg casserole and meat and have orange juice as a rare treat.  I Don't like coffee...that would make me dump.

Christmas dinner with my hubby will probably be lobster tails, broccoli, and small dessert.  He is okay with simple menus.  On big holidays I usually have two meals for the day and not much else.

For our family celebration on the day after Christmas, we are having ham but I may fix a Canard A L' Orange for me.  More important than a lot of food is time to play with the grand kids new toys.

I've played with enough recipes that I can usually reduce the sugar and fat without ruining the flavor....like cheesecake:  I use low fat cream cheese and Splenda.  It has 6 eggs but it makes a large cake and will freeze well.  A small portion goes a long way.

All in all, food prep has been an entertaining challenge.  A big plus is that my husband likes everything I fix and has never once complained about a meal in our entire marriage.

I am just like you! I indulge in moderation. I didn't have any regrets. And I ran four miles on Christmas day so I could eat a little more ;)
